I'm one of the chosen few lucky enough to have drums on the rear , pretty sure they are causing my pedal travel problem, when you press the pedal you can hear squeaking movement like the springs being stretched, so they are obviously not adjusted right. Trouble is, however much i try one of the shoes just doesn't seem to be able to be adjusted out far enough, its like either the snail cams are worn away or the post on the shoe is worn. Has anyone else had this? I read in another thread that suggested some (cheaper) brake shoes don't have the post in the right place, which would likely cause this.

I've had it all apart but nothing appears to be overly worn or out of place.

THey do move the shoes out, but one of them does not move the shoe out far enough, its like the shoe slips off of it. The snail cams look ok to me which is why i wondered if the position of the post on the shoes is wrong. Tempted to weld a small sleeve over the post to make it bigger and see if that provides better adjustment

Sorted. They are different, and they were fitted wrong, preventing correct adjustment. Been like it last 5 years:eek:

Removed, refitted, adjusted, test drove, adjusted again, Eureka - perfect brake pedal.

`Hey lad,

Can you explain what the differenc is between the two shoes and what you did to fix this, because i have EXACTLY the same issue and its driving me insane...

Take a look at pictures in my previous post, the two shoes in picture 1 are the same as each other but very slightly different to the two shoes in picture 2 (which are also the same as each other) - the position of the three holes at the top and the adjuster post is very slightly different. What you should have is one of each shoe paired together on each hub, like the picture below, then the snail cams align perfectly with the adjuster post and they will adjust up properly. Very subtle difference that requires a keen eye, but makes a huge difference to the brake adjustment.
