Hand brake MOT

just had to reply "as I don't live anywhere hilly."
I was waiting for the mrs today, I was parked in our seafront car park, nose on to our seawall.
I was bored..
so I tried to find out how easy it was to just drive up the steep angle of the sea wall,
its easy, both my hand brake and foot brakes work very well...

so when the mrs come back, I said I found a way to...
she was screaming by the time all 4 wheels were on the wall....he..he..he

I is only a young 65 and should respect others at all times sir

No.
And my boy has tested hundreds of Landys on his.

No, they don't.
And modern ones have contra-rotating rollers anyway.

I really don't understand why people are so paranoid about brake testing landys. Has anyone had their vehicle damaged by the brake test?

Even hgv with transmission handbrake get tested on rollers , they have to be chocked (front axle) and the handbrake is applied slowly with rollers going untill a reading sufficient to achieve required efficiency is reached , and this is reached before lock up reading is, (obtained from previous footbrake test) otherwise they will try and climb out of rollers (quite spectacular!) . There is no risk of damage to landy gearbox as they have centre diff , also the gearbox is not under stress as torque is only felt by rear prop and drivetrain HTSH

As long as the transfer box is in neutral, no problem using rollers for handbrake or foot brake test.
The tester I use is a landy man, and uses the rollers with no ill effect.

Ill have a word i'm sure he'll understand. Will take it for an MOT somewhere used to Land Rovers next time. Anyone know one near me that does MOT's as many are just service & repairs. Cheers.

my chap doesn't use the rollers, but the tapley, cause its "a little more forgiving" for older vehicles.
I like going there, its a good honest test, he doesnt cut corners, but he looks to pass it if he can if its a case of "his opinion" its ok...

or 20mph with a Tapley

100/6.25= 16 So weren't far off.

Or if you was testing a car that couldn't be put in the rollers

I can understand the concern about damaging your landy by testing it in this way
But the handbrake as well as being a parking brake its also a emergency back up and I'd like to know if mine would be up to the job should I need it

Yeah I've never heard of anyone on here actually breaking a halft shaft, from any cause. I guess they're tougher than they look - touch wood. Still, I am going to say something.

you want to be careful using transmission brake as emergency break ,its got diffs to go through

Now THAT sir, is funny. Would only work with women who don't understand Landys, such as your good lady and my wife. The ladies on LZ will all be used to such shenanigans!

try it ,its ok at very low speeds,what happens if one wheel tries to drive the to the other wheel on the opposite side if prop is locked

Id rather try it and possibly break a diff/ slide than crash into a house/ car because the brakes failed

its not the breaking off a diff thats the issue ,what happens when you try to tow a tractor off in too high a gear?

youve never seen one with both rear wheels going in opposite directions,perhaps some study on how diffs work ,and which way opposite wheel goes if you turn the other
