Bull****, you are now blindly quoting from RAVE, it is wrong as you are. Look at the wiring diagrams for 1997/98. Two diodes NO connection to starter relay. Look at diagrams for 1999 on. Three diodes connection to starter relay. If you want to pretend to be a mechanic you really must start to get your act together.

I've never pretended that I am a mechanic just pure experience
Not bull**** as you can see 97 6th edition and 1999 on both relays pulled by starter !

I am not going to continue with this nonsense. You are incorrect, if you want to carry on giving out duff info it just makes all the people who are asking for answers confused. If you don't know what you are talking about and it's obvious you don't, it is best you say nothing.

It's so funny they use rave as a Reference all the time but when I point out mistakes rave is so so wrong

Only when RAVE is correct. It's knowing when it's wrong and not quoting it that is the trick. You didn't point anything out you quoted it and it is wrong.

So the manual to fix the unreliable car is also unreliable? :p
Yes to some extent, there are number of errors, some are just related to changovers in spec like the way the tank pump is operated, others are more basic. Like all technical manuals, it needs to be used with some knowledge on the part of the reader of how things work.
Just because the text in the manual for the 97 states that the pump is operated when cranking does not mean that is so on a car of that year, just that the info changed before the physical change was implemented on the production line.:). You just need to compare the 2 fuse boxes and by using the VIN you can identify which fuse box is fitted.

Not wishing to get involved....but they quote RAVE when they know what is written is correct - you will find they don't quote RAVE when it is known to be wrong, but from knowledge and experience...that's the difference, they don't blindly quote RAVE...but assess and evaluate RAVE before applying it to learned knowledge and make an educated judgement call on what is more logically going to be correct.

Thanks Ant at least someone understand how things are. :):);)

Tell you what
Save all the arguments when i get to the pump and get it working ill put a multi meter across it,and tell you when a 98 has power!

Why did they run the pump from so many supplys anyway? Does it use differant voltages ?
Surly it would have been easyer to power it from ignition live?

And having both early and late models that we own ables me to test it it read from a book Do currently have both as I do this enables me to check and not read from a manual.
I had this out with wammers two years ago he was adiment that early and late fuel in tank. Fuel pump only worked with glows or jumping relay untill I came along with the later 99 and that the pump would also activate if cranked or engine is running funny enough later he changed his way of thinking and now says it will only on 99 onwards so what caused the change in his outlook must of done more investigating .

You do talk some crap at times. It totally depends which year of vehicles was being discussed at the time. Just like now if i recall correctly you insisted the lift pump worked on cranking because the one you owned did. For christ sake look at the wiring diagrams if you can understand them.

I did and tbo honest I can't see the sight for a one way diode also I can't see any differance with early or late alternators sold on the market for diesels

Why would there be a difference in the alternator? Look at the schematic for the 94/95/96/97/98 fuel pump circuit and the schematic for the 1999 fuel pump circuit.
