RAC are crap! Anyone better?

All Landys can be towed on 4 wheels, just not very far and not to fast.

The L322 can be towed upto 3hours at no more than 30mph without going into Transfer Neutral according to the book (not that I would want to mind)

Not sure on the P38, but I am sure even 30 yards at hand pushing speed will not do any lasting damage!!

Interesting, is the transfer box oil circulated in a different way, or is the box just tougher?

I'm with AA and happy enough with them. When I broke down they did the. usual, send a van first, even although told it would need a flat bed. However, to give them their due, rather than leaving me waiting until the flat bed turned up,the van driver took me home and we arranged for the flat bed guy to pick up the keys from security, then recovered veh to garage. Throughout the whole process I was given constant updates as to what was happening.
It also helps that I get 50% off :D

i know they are but you mentioned p38s and others ,but do you know why
I mentioned that they can be moved, but the handbook doesn't specify any distance/time/speed factors, but I am sure pushing it 30 yards to the side of the road at hand pushing speed is unlikely to do any damage....

And I thought it would have been obvious I was referring to the manual variant of such!

doesnt matter which variant if t/box is in neutral obviously ,

Up here it don't matter which organisation you are with.. we cover them all!
Get some interesting complaints at times about response times, but with a 30 mile radius to cover, with 2 trucks, then sometimes you are just going to have to wait. The again, it may be 10 minutes!
Some people just don't do themselves any favours tho - picked up a family one morning - they had been waiting just over an hour. Was asked to stop so kids could go to the loo. Obliged... and after waiting 15 mins for them to return, went looking. Found them sitting down to breakfast in the restaurant! Told them they had 5 mins and then the car was coming off the truck. They were shocked! Had to point out that they wouldn't have been happy waiting another hour or so at the roadside if my previous casualty had stopped for coffee!!
Others tend to forget that it is their car that they broke... and the world does not owe them anything.
:p

Wow, if I had seen them sitting down to breakfast I wouldn't have given them 5 minutes. Car would've been unloaded and I'd be on my way.

As a victim I like to get things done, my day/week/month is already ruined by the breakdown. Balls to hanging around, get me home so I can drink so much my tears taste of rum.

I'm with the AA I always get relay as I usualy want it taken to a destination of my choice .
If you broke down and are not a member then expect to be charged an excessive fee I pay around £90 a year . And have had no problems apart from Renewal is cheaper on line rather that a continuation better to cancel and start again as with most of these company's .

Well it turns out the RAC can't recover a Range Rover. To cut a very long story short, they contracted the job out and the first contractor phoned me and said, I kid you not, "Oh, a Range Rover, I can't recover anything that big". After a 3 hour wait, they said "another firm is coming for you, they'll phone you in 10 mins". Nothing.

I broke down at 2pm, finished on the phone withe the RAC at 2:10 and was eventually recovered at 6:55pm. A 5 hour wait. And, the best bit: I was a "priority" because I have 2 young kids in the car!! They could have driven a patrol from one end of the country to another in the time I waited. I could have flown to Spain and back!

And they don't care either. I've complained on the phone, Tweeted and posted on their Facebook page. Not even a phone call back. So I've cancelled my direct debit with them.

So, who do you recommend? Or do you not bother and just risk paying for a tow if you ever need one?

tnx

Nik

P.S Back home. Rad all fixed by ALS in Poole :)
Errm isnt most recovery trucks based on 7.5t wagons and as so can carry around 4.5t of load? So easly carry a rongerover

Agree with that, had to do the very same for the past 5 years

Kids where over moon not annoyed about missing hols but chuffed because they went in two break down trucks:confused:

??? How? How can they not know/check that? :(

I'm with the AA- good news is , in the Midlands they have sub-contracted all their landrover breakdowns to Landrover . Bloke arrived in his Landrover liveried brand new disco within 15 mins of me calling and had me on the road straight off.

Last time I got a call out at home - bloke was a landrover trained mechanic- from the local factory so another fantastic win for me :)
