Which make of clutch?

I'm replacing my gearbox (or assisting with it) and want to fit a new clutch whilst the gearbox is off. Obviously avoiding unnamed and brit part bits....

Should I change the arm as a matter of course?

I was going to replace mine when I did the engine conversion, so I got a nice borg and beck, but when I checked the old one out, it was perfect (no visible wear or difference from the new one, must have had very few miles on it), so I just used that. Maybe you should assess the condition first? I've kept my new one as a spare.

Original fit on my 300TDi was Valeo so that is what I replaced it with. The original clutch had only covered 35K miles from new but as I was fitting a galvanised bulkhead it made sense to replace everything while I had unrestricted access. I used a Valeo 130 (8-spring) plate, Valeo cover, BP HD metal sleeved release bearing & fork.
I replaced the crankshaft oil seal for a genuine item at the same time although I had to think hard about that as it was sealing perfectly so I wondered it it was worth disturbing it (35K miles from new remember)? I had heard of even genuine replacements not sealing correctly but I did it anyway.

Cheers. I've been phoning around, looking at eBay etc and I've found someone who will fit a 2nd hand r380 gearbox (known to be working without faults) for £350 all in plus £100 all in for steering box, drop arm and front steering arm. So £98 inc postage for 4 in 1 clutch kit from AP gets everything sorted for £550......

Just the belts to do and then its all little bits and pieces left

Haven't had experience on a Landrover but any QH clutch I've used or seen fitted to BMWs has been sh!te so I'd stay away from those

I got the clutch, an AP if I remember rightly then found out that the fault on the gearbox is probably the clutch needing bleeding Oh well it'll be there ready for when I do need it.

borg and beck, change the fork for an uprated one, and defo change the shaft seal. and dont under any circumstances use anything in a blue bag.

unless you really like taking your defender to bits

I agree some ****part bits are probably ok, but tbh I dont feel like working it all out and then carrying an encyclopedic list of all their products in my head.
much easier to avoid the whole damn lot.
