Northern Laning Trip... Ideas Please

Winch... broken
roof lights... not wired up
exhaust... not attached
wheel bearing... f**ked
power management system... half built
Roll cage... not attached

And to top things off i have a nice new roof tent I really want to take on a test run... but... you can't really put a roof tent on a 88" pick-up cab!

Still... on the plus side i turned my huge shed around today :D

Yeah you can they do pick up roof tent frames :D
 
can't belive there is a week to go and everything decides to break but i will be there even if i have to push it

LOL I've had mine all checked out and minor bits fixed. Its on the drive till next Friday now, not giving anything else chance to go wrong :D
 
Right, Craig has a lot on his plate just now, house move and all that entails, so I've come up with an extra route, different to his original scratchy route, 'cos three lanes on that route are now TRO'd!!

Route length ~84 miles, Some scratchy lanes, at least a couple quite tight, but if you drive good lines there's loadsaroom :) Foliage is mostly hawthorn hedges .. some lanes might be a little muddy if it rains, has rained or is raining. This route is NOT extreme ... I am NOT doing Hollinsclough, too political and probably too gnarly for standard vehicles. There are some slippery rocky inclines and declines, and there is one ford on the route as it is, but it's on an 'offshoot' so very optional. A good place for a snack and a video opportunity maybe.

If people want to do fords, I have an alternative route I can do that includes two decent fords that don't need snorkels, as long as it's not been too wet. I also have another alternative route for a particular lane that looks and feels awesome, the vehicles go sideways at about 40 degrees and feel like they're tipping .. indeed they might if someone tries hard enough! But it _is_ an alternative .. I've done it a few times both ways in my Disco on AT's and it's pretty easy if careful! I would encourage anyone to have a go to see what their vehicles can do ..

There are some awkward road entries and exits from lanes, that's the nature of the area.

I have driven all the lanes on my route at least once in the last year, some of them a few times, there is nothing on them that a standard Disco, driven reasonably, can't do, they're lanes after all! Any Defender should find them a breeze, but again care might need to be taken.

As of last weekend they were all open and driveable, but as we all know that might change. If Peaks Authority decide to TRO a particular lane in the next week it's not an insurmountable problem, the good thing with the peaks is it's pretty compact, so if you miss one lane, you can usually pick up another! Which is also probably part of the problem of crowded lanes.

So, a list of lanes my route covers .. dunno how to get a list of 'em off Memory Map, so a couple of pics'll have to do!!

The routes on the map are main route in yellow, the alternative to take in two extra fords is purple, the alternative for Two Dales, the sideways lane, is light blue.

...sounds like it would cost money though!

You can yes they are a bit like brackets that lift the tent proud of the back the locate on the roof tents own frame.
Trying to remember the make.....thinking.....brain steaming.....it might be on the terrain site. But I have waded through a lot of roof tent sites lately so :eek:!

All sound cracking to me, personally liking the sound of rocky inclines and fords :D but I can hear Rosie's rivets shaking at the prospect ;) I cant see the map on me phone :D

Sounds really good Paul .... But are slippery rock descents/accents gonna be do-able for folks like me with little experience ...oh and I might just bypass the 40 degree side winder too :D
You and graigyB and others I'm sure have put so much effort into this , I'm sure I can speak for the others going and say that it is very much appreciated , big slap on the back :D
Can I just say as well before someone like Drewster pooh poohs me ..it's ok having a defender and folks say you can go anywhere , do anything , but if you lack confidence like I do , it can still seem like the hardest challenge in the world.
