35mpg from a Tdi is either optimistic (ie calculation error), or just not likely for most. Ok 30+ can be done if you drive gentle and keep your speed down. But I doubt everyone can get near that and it will depend on the type of use and roads you drive. Also with an auto no f'ing chance.

My old man and Bro both exceed 30+mph we do all have solonoids on our fuel pump to allow no extra fuel being thrown i.e the diaphram is vented to atmosphere when activated. they cruise around 55/65 and they get that all day in a Disco I suspect a defender would be lower due to bugger all aerodynamics

Ok to get the most out of mine it had the following done.

It started down on power on a rolling road test giving just 95bhp missing a lot considering it is ment to be 122bhp.

After a good service and cleaning out the crap in the intercooler and the inlet manifold it went up to 120bhp that's when I caught the more money than sence bug.

It now has.
ECU chip.
Itg air filter.
Larger intercooler from allysport
De cat
EGR removed.
Turbo replaced with a VNT one.
Head has been ported and polished.
Inlet manifold polished.
However most of the work was done because the engine had a compleat rebuild

It now gives 148bhp at the wheels and returns 34-38mpg if driven sensibly

So in short unless you change a lot you will not get much gain.

Would I do it again no probably not.

Have you looked into a larger as in capacity/psi injector pump and larger set of injector nozzles? That 300 should be able to get 200hp. Just a matter of how much money to spend.:)

The full rebuild was for the disco was 4000 the engine was 2000.

And I know I will never see it back lol.

But it is fun, and what the hell it is a hobby. Just think that 300tdi and td5 have a lot more HP than what they are running at the moment.

The diesel nuts here are now getting up to 1200 hp out of stock 325hp motors

This is true especially when you do the work yourself.

Biggest cost was a respray. This was then promptly foooked when I went laining with Wiltshire landy man. lol

I did turn it down from 160bhp as I don't want it going bang.

And frig that's a lot of power 1200 hp ouch

They are using a propane air injection and water injection in the turbo, and some are running 2 trobos hook inline. the newer V8 have twin turbo from factory and they stake another on each side.

My 6 liter ford has variable torbo from factory and will boost up to 35psi 40 and waste gate opens with a pyro gauge. Most driving is 20 psi up to speed then at 70-80mph shows 8-9 psi.
