Number plate location - sun visor?

Hi all,

Wondered if anyone can help. At the moment, the front number plate in my 1989 110 is fastened to the passenger side sun visor inside the vehicle. With a winch bumper and a bar, and a tyre on the bonnet and no roof rack, its the only place I can think of putting it.

Will there be any problems having it mounted there?

Any other ideas where it could go?

AFAIK No, it has to be be outside.

got a pic of yer front end, might be able to suggest somthing then, or its just a good excuse to buy a light bar!!

Fair enough, how about a plate sticker but wrapped round one of the larger bars on the winch bumper?

I was gonna suggest that, but noticed he has a bonnet mounted spare, so that would obsure it too much wouldnt it??

A mate of mine has his mounted onto a horizontal bar on his winch bumper with a couple of jubilee clips. This allows him to have it in a road legal position when driving, but when winching, he simply flips it up out of the way of his winch cable.

If they want to be funny they will get you either way as its meant to be at the most forward part of the car.

Coming from a Max Power back ground I have encountered the issue a few times, if they get arsey they can issue a £30 fine and a refer you to a garage to have the slip stamped saying its been rectified.

according to the dvla/vosa websites, it can be positioned anywhere on the front of the vehicle as long as its as 'upright as possible'.

when behind glass, it makes it difficult for the anpr cameras to identify, so they dont like it.

Mate of mine has a 110 with winch and bumper.

He has a normal number plate, but he has put 2 clips on the back. He then can clip and un-clip the plate from the winch rollers.

Saw one of those 'traffic cop' programs recently where the copper 'booked a motorcyclist for having a 'flip up' number plate. His argument was that he could flip it up out of the way if he was speeding(!) and thus avoid a fine.
But you're right - if they feel arsey - they'll book you for anything.

An excuse a mate of mine uses all the time is that the number plate had fallen off, retrived it and re-attached it with cable ties and is currently on the way home to repair it properly.

Gotten away with it everytime hes been stopped. Still not the best plan though..

works well until the same copper pulls you twice :lol:

I'm trying to think of the best solution on my disco as its currently bolted over the hole where the winch would go on my bumper but as soon as I put a winch in there I think I'll have to get a bonnet sticker!
