What tyres do you have on your freelander

I have Kumho KL17's on ours, 225/55 x 17, good price, never been stuck in snow, wear medium, 2nd set in 2 1/2 years

im going for a set of insa turbo sahara,s next month when i figure out if im buying 15 or 16" black modulars or 8 spokes in black, to put them on, theres alot of contraversy on tyre sizes for a freelander, i normally get the wheels and tyres i want then make the vehicle fit the wheels, but the wife doesnt want me taking the grinder and welder to her freelander though. decisions decisions.

Insa turbo ranger 205/70 15's. They sing a bit, but not let me down yet. Done about 10,000miles so far. Cost £360 for set of five.

I got Wrangler All Weathers but I wasn't impressed with their handling in the recent snow.
To be fair 2 of them are not at their best but still legal.
Just spend a few hours looking at tyres and I think I go for General Grabber HTS for the next set in 225/70/15

ATs look better but I don't really need them and I can't find any Grabber TR's for 15" rims

Is it going to be ok to put tyres on at that size?. I am assuming that the original tyres where 195/80/15. That seems a big difference to replace with your idea.

Right that us ok then. Just got myself a set of 15" alloys so I now have a variety of tyres to choose from and a variety of prices. Ill still keep my 17" wheels for something.

@ diesel do, I notice that you appear to have aftermarket steel modulars fitted, as do I on my motor, but the hub caps will not fit, they won't reach the hub lip due to the dish effect on the wheel, did you adapt yours to fit at all?

(I am using a widely available cheap and cheerful hub cover to keep corrosion away from the hub nuts right now, but I'd prefer my landie covers).

Well, it was a pain in the arse! But I thought it looked crap without them, soooo, because the modulars aren't hubcentric the gap is big enough to fit the original wheel hub centres in that the caps clip to! So out with the grinder I cut the centres out of my original steel rims deformed them a little so they're a tight fit on the hubs then you can clip in your hub caps! Simple

Ah right, that's a bit beyond what I can do, but for info, and don't laugh at this, but I'll post the link (can't post the image) so you can see what I've done to keep the hub nuts from rusting up.

christ on a bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 pages of tyre tosh and still going, fit these bad boys and you're sorted.



Forgot to mention, you will need a lift kit and spacers, and some steps or a rope ladder to get in.

My first attempt was to paint the hub with black enamel which looked ok but much happier with the proper trims

I've just changed over to the new style General Grabber AT's, so far they are excellent and I love them. They also have excellent reviews for both on road and off road

Just seems strange, as when you buy after market alloys they come with spigot rings so the wheels are a proper fit.
