Hi

Would you say for value that the hawkeye is currently the best unit on the market

If when bying a unit do they also come with the car specific codes in order that if a fault comes up it will tell you what the codes means

I've had alook around and the hawkeye is around the 300 mark

Also belive that as mine is pre obd2 complaint that the haweye will work with no problems

How effective are they, can they tell if the injectors are worn, if the maf is working correctly

I've got a synergy box fitted and would of course turn if off in ordwr to get a true reading of what the engine is doing

May I ask a daft question how does the unit know your gearbox etc is working correctly etc

Thks again

Hi

Would you say for value that the hawkeye is currently the best unit on the market Yes, sort of, for the price. There is options from Black Box Solutions but know one has put a demo on nthe web to view so I don't know what their kit can do. They do have a helpful web link to info about the Freelander 1's computers (and other LR products too).

If when bying a unit do they also come with the car specific codes in order that if a fault comes up it will tell you what the codes means It comes with 1 code when bought new and you email the peeps with the code and choose which vehicle you want licensed. A Freelander 1, Freelander 2, D3 or D4 etc are all treated as different vehicles. Hence 1 code will only do one vehicle. My Hawkeye will read info from the different computers in my Freelander 1. It can display and remove fault codes. Once you have a fault code read it then go back to the main menu and go into a different menu and type in the code and it tells you the meaning in english. Or search for it on the web and not only find out the meaning, see what others discussed when they had the same fault code.

I've had alook around and the hawkeye is around the 300 mark Yep. The price is annoying but there int many other options that can do the same amount. I don't know how much the BBS option would cost (or any info about what it is) so don't have a comparison.

Also belive that as mine is pre obd2 complaint that the haweye will work with no problems It should work with all Freelander 1's if you choose to have it licensed for a Freelander 1. Freelanders talk a different language which the Hawkeye can talk. Hence pre odbii complience Freelander 1's int a problem if you have a Hawkeye.

How effective are they, can they tell if the injectors are worn, if the maf is working correctly No. It can't tell you this directly. The Hawkeye displays info from your Freelanders computers so you can see it. From here you have to understand it and make your own judgement. If the pressure was nnn and it's now nn then the pressure has dropped. Therefore you have low pressure etc... you have to hope that some helpful person has uploaded video's of Hawkeyes in action to you tube with variuos results for you to compare against. Or find another Freelander 1 to compare against yours.

I've got a synergy box fitted and would of course turn if off in ordwr to get a true reading of what the engine is doing Hawkeye will still work if a synergy is fitted. It can see the pressure rise when the synergy is doing it's stuff.

May I ask a daft question how does the unit know your gearbox etc is working correctly etc If it'a a manual gearbox then it don't. If you have an auto gearbox on your Freelander 1 then a Hawkeye licensed to Freelander 1 can talk to your auto's computer. It can read fault codes, data signals and display info. Sadly this part of the Hawkeye's software isn't written as well as I would hope, as when I used it on my auto it displays obvious mistakes.

Thks again No problem.

hiya buddy

how the devil are you, hope your ok, your in swanley as well arnt you,

thks so much buddy for the great info, will have a look at the black box info but i imagine will go for the hawkeye, mines the auto and fitted the oen cruise control kit , still working great.

still cant get over as i bought a second hand ecu for the cc it was all plug and play, a few others have now done it and emailed me back saying its working great to, good result all round.

i remember you telling me and still got the pics of the spill back test, bought the syringes but still didnt get the tubing.

feel that if i get the hawkeye can at least start to see what fault codes etc there are and go from there, to write them down, clear it then recheck them a month later to see how it goes,

also been looking at the elm 327 but still worried it wont work with my 2002 model, but would be great if it did, would be good if someone with a 2002 diesel auto also tried the elm 327 and to say what does and doesnt work.

still for the price i may bite the bullet on that

not sure if it will bluetooth to my blackberry 9900, if not could plug in my laptop to see what it shows.

it was like the cruise control everyone was trying to do it and that was the last we heard, thats why when i got my working reported back so at least then people could then know it works on a certain model type

thks again and of course if i do buy the elm and works great will report my findings back on here for everyone else

all the best

gary

thks again

I think you've got me confused with another member. Location and diesel bit isn't me.
The elm327 (a propper one) may work ok. I have one for my 2001 v6. It's very limited. I put pic's up of what it shows on another thread. Only reads the engine computer and none of the others. Each computer can store it's own fault codes from what I can see.

Hiya

Sorry buddy. Nust be my age , lol,

Thks about the info, there seems to be so many makers of the elm

Been trying to find your video on u tube

May I ask is it under, elm 327 etc

Thks buddy and sorry again for the misunderstanding

Gary

No problem.

Don't have any video's of elm327 but I have hawkeye video's over ere: HippoPhoto's channel - YouTube

There's a lot of copies of elm327 available. I paid about £60 to £80 if I remember correctly for mine then the prices fell through the floor as the fake china copies started. Some work but don't do all they should. I guess they will get betterer over time. Mine was a usb version. If you get one you'll probably get cheap software with it. If you pay a bit more you can get betterer software with data displayed as graphs etc. they seem to want you to pay for the betterer software separatley. Bit of a con if you ask me.

Thanks buddy, looked at the bluetooth ones , been trying to see what they actually display etc,

When I have a look on ebay will make sure I don't get the ones from china

Thks again
