How often do you hose down your chassis when salt is down?

Do you tend to clean salt from your chassis whilst snow and salt is still on the ground, or do you just wait until everything on the road has thawed and washed away and give your chassis a bloody good cleandown then?

Surprisingly not.

It's got the usual surface rust but apart from that its 100% solid with no welding

I see you have an '87 vehicle. Do you use it much on salted roads and have you applied any chassis protection?

Mine has been done. It's spotless and I want it to stay that way. Road salt is a bit of a curse.

Mine gets used a fair bit on salted roads. The other half is a district nurse so when the weather gets like this it gets used to visit patients.
It's never been treated or painted. It's as it came from land rover all those years ago.

Now you've mentioned it I might have a go at treating and painting it once I've done the body lift.

Problem is if you jet wash it at home all the water freezes and you're left with a skating ring... but all the garage jet washes are shut due to being frozen... (mines covered in mud from the weekend and really needs a clean!!)

twice weekly as i get so fekin muddy every day it would be foolish to not do so ..

left it for a month once as i had a theory that if it was caked in mud and crud it would keep the chassis covered up.The doris refused to use it or even go near it and said take me to work in the car i aint getting in that mud box lol...

so twice a week....summer once a month if its dry...

yes it will hold crud and **** but when you wash it off come summer.. perfectooo !


i do it on my motorbike if i have to use it while the salt is down and then when its gone wash it all off..

look at it like barrier cream for your car or bike

OK, salty chassis and the cleaning thereof!
when the car washes open again
(our local one has)
they do a bloody good car wash wiv chassis wash, not cheap, but my black landie comes out shining.
or yes, lay on the floor under my derty landie wiv one of me jet washers, get covered in ****e, get soaking wet,
but get satisfaction that its been done propper.
I`ll chose the first option in the short term, but I know I`ll use the second option in the long term coz I like to see the suspenders and underwear of my much loved `ol landie..
when It all dries, you`ll see the oil leaks again to remind you on whats needing topping up since last years oil leeks top ups

I have blasted many a chassis for prep work and restorations and belive me you want to waste your time cleaning go ahead but you can't clean inside properly , where box sections rot caused by constant dampness!!

Mj 99 270000km and still not to much rust. Seen other cars rot away after 10 years. All properly serviced and always washed during the winter.

If you have between 10 to 15 degrees minus during the night and Jetwash your car everything freezes up and destroys the protective coat over the time.
