rear heater

im looking to put some kind of heater in the van of my Renault master that can be turned on/off when driving to warm up the disco equipment prior to arriving at a gig..at this time of year the gear gets very cold and sometimes frosty.

not sure whether I would have to run summit of an invertor or if theres a simple connect to power heater we can use.

anyone have summit they can recommend? tia

i had a plumbed in eberspacher diesel powered heater, fantastic bit of kit, mine was on a manual thermostat controlled switch but they can be equipped with remote timers n all sorts

looked at them but its a lot of plumbing and routing work to get it to the rear of the van and the price is crazy on them,were really after a unit that can be run electricaly

There's just not enough power in a vehicle to run a good electric heater, a 1kw heater would need over 80amps at 12v. Have you tried carpeting the roof and sides? That helps a lot.

im a floor layer by trade

it does help a lot..but still does gey very cold/frosty in there

its a mahoosive lwb medium high roof master if would have to be so hot in the front cab to pass the air to the rear to warm it up I think you would sweat yr nuts of in the front

How about a small caravan gas heater? You get caravan scrappers advertising on google and e-bay. fitted one to wife's horse box living space and works a treat. Not sure if its wise to use on the move though.
That's where i would look though - the camping and caravanning industry must have something that would work?

you got masses of waste heat from the engine...either in the cooling water or the exhaust gasses.

plumb a second heater rad in parallel with the cab heater, or somehow divert some of the airflow through the existing heater direct to the rear. perhaps a duct fittd over the existing floor level outlets

trying to run the exhaust pipe inside would be silly cos of the risk of a leak.... but some sort of heat exchanger to provide warm air from exhaust heat.

Space is a bit of a premium in the bk

presumably you aint looking for passenger levels of heat, just somthing to stop the kit getting cold so it dont condensate when you get to the gig.

How about a exhaust heat exhanger, as used on air cooled VWs etc, then a decent 12V fan or a blower to blow it round the back (12V fan if yer REALLY stuck for space, a blower would move the air a bit better.

Yeh that sort of thing, as our lighting console, karaoke and main console are all pc based they don't like the cold do much

Our shogun has an extra heater for the passenger cabin, its got all its own controls and can blow hot or cold with multiple speeds. As its quite basic technology - all manually controlled) pherhaps you could have a look for one of these? Its dead tiddly about the side of a small ice cream tub but yee gods it chucks out some heat. Kids moan its too hot in the back!

Plenty of mitsy challengers on ebay being broken and im sure its not the sort of part people are after?

12v with matrix and blower - you could plumb it in quite easily

from exp. with driving black cabs and metro's there about as good as a gaylander hg.
