Freelander 1, All Terrain Tyres - Size That Will Fit?

Hello, I'm possibly purchasing a used Freelander 1 in the near future. It will have the 17" wheel size. I'll be looking to fit a set of AT tyres, General Grabber AT2 to be exact. I'm not sure which sizes will fit my LR. Would a 255/70 or 265/70 fit? Of course, they're both R17. I'm just concerned those sizes will come into contact with nearby parts once on, or not even fit at all.

If not, is there another R17 AT tyre you could reccomend to me that comes in a size that would fit?

Dunno if you can get AT tyres this size but my freelander 1 has 225/55/17 and they seem perfectly fine

The R17 Grabbers I can only get in 255/70/17 or 265/70/17, what brand are yours? By reading the net I've realised the 70 height will be fine, just depends if I can get a 255 or 265 on. I've heard of 235 being used, but that's the largest.

Int much available in 17's. Now if yer had 16's it would be a different case. AT2's or the new general:

I could get a LR with 16" but that would involve waiting around a little for one to come up with the right spec, mileage and price that I desire. I can go for the 17" if 255/70 will fit. I've heard of use of 215/80 but not 255/70 or 265/70. On the link above I found the 245 AT2, would that work ok?

Not sure about sizes. I've got the AT2 which are a bit noisey. The newer grabber GENERAL TYRES / 4X4 / GENERAL GRABBER AT - 255/65R16 109T XL TL :: £97.00 :: 4x4 Tyres - SUV Tyres - All Terrain Tyres - Off Road Tyres - 16" :: R16" - 255/65/16, 255/65 R 16 :: are the updated version which int so noisey.

On a FL1 the biggest 16" you can fit is a 205/80/16. These come within a few mm's of the lower spring seat F+R as they are about 2" bigger than standard (giving an approx 1" lift). Check out TYRESAVE: Tyre Size Calculator to see which 17" equivalent would be the same outer dia, but you probably wouldn't be able to go any wider without being slightly smaller.

My 3 door TD4 - Will it run ok on 205/80 16s then ? with now fouling etc on a lock ?

Its on 215 65 16s at the moment, but the 205/80s are more plentiful.

If you want a bit more lift, get some 15" steel rims and you will find a LOT more choice of tyre, with some that give more height than 17" tyres

Increases the choice by quite a bit.

tyre sizes are a very specific science the 70 is not the height it it the width x the hight = overall size or something like that meaning the wider the tyre the taller it tends to be if memory serves me correctly 265 70 17 would be around 31" tall from the ground meaning to big for the freebie

225/75/16 as fitted to mine

225 is the width in mm
75 is the profile which is a percentage of the width so it varies in height depending on width
16 is the rim diameter in inches

As said, 205/80R16 will fit no problem.

I ran some 215/80R15's with no issues (apart from road noise)

Both were on a standard car. I expect if you go much wider than that, without any modifications, you will run into trouble...

Can someone confirm the J and offset of Land Rover wheels..

PDC = 114.3mm
Nut Lug = 12x1.50
Center Bore = 64.1
15" = 5j = 46
16" = 6j = 46
17" = 7j = 46

Std Tyre fitment..

195/80/15
215/65/16
225/55/17

Now going on the information above from previous posts,
205/80/16 fits without any issues,
if you stick to these dimensions overall
then any match should fit..

If your wheels are after-market then check the J & Offset...

P.S I make no guarantees, look for yourself and choose wisely..
