Hi there, can anyone tell me if there is an iPod connecting kit that is suitable for a Freelander. I've heard that you can get a kit that is fully integrated with the LR system i.e not dependant on cigar lighter and can be operated by the switchgear on the steering column. Cheers

Ignore Slob, he's a Disco driver I beleive :(
There is a gizmo that uses the Freelanders CD autochanger control to operate the iPod. So instead of using a CD autochanger you connect this gizmo up instead. Uses the RCA connectors on the back of the head unit.
You then plug the lead from this box of tricks into the iPod and use the stereos CD controls to operate it.
I'm looking at one for my Freelander but I do have an after market Sony MP3 player in the car. Check to make sure that your head unit has CD control capability and you're fine.

thinking of updating from i-shuffle to an i-pod - did anybody ever find out if you can wire an ipod into the Freebifter stereo??

Cheers

If the Freelander head unit has CD changer inputs on the back then the answer is yes. It will recognise the iPod as a CD autochanger. You need a special dock for this though.

Thanks Dave. I can't see any price list on the website you gave the link to. Any ideas how much they are?

Just purchased a lead from Maplins which looks like it may well do the job - any clues on how I get the CD Player put of the dash? (2006 Model)

Got as far as this - the whole silver and black 'shroud' seems to want to come off as one piece but something is holding it in place - any ideas?? I am an impatient bugger and will end up snapping something soon!!!!!

Bugger - cannot find the prices either - just email them mate ans they will sort you.

Alternatively, ring Dionne at South tyneside Auto Electrics, if you dont mind mail order and advise her that Dave from SG Petch sent you she might be able to do them cheaper.

phewww - finally got the stereo out last night after some helpful advice from my local dealer - thanks Stratstone Stourbidge!

According to one of the techs there, it is Land Rover wisdom that if they make the stereo extremely tricky to get out then they wont get stolen!!! (erm methinks if somebody wants it then they will just do as much damage as they can to get it, but hey!)

Basically, you need to remove the cubby between the front seats and the work your way forward removing the handbrake shroud, the casing for the heater controls etc. and keep going until you can get the casing from round the stereo off.

AFter all that there are no phono leads coming from the back, just a spare square lead that i think is an RCA (going to check at MAplins to be sure)

For reference, the stereo in an 06 Freelander is a Visteon FL5CDX6, if anybody else is trying to source similar

Just had one fitted by Halfrauds - I know they usually get a hard time on here but I have to say I am impressed - fully fitted for 99quids - spot on job, it charges the ipod as it goes and broadcasts thro 88.7FM. OK sound quality isnt exactly Bosé quality if you whack it right up to number 33 but what do you expect for less than the price of a couple of tanks of fuel?

heres a rarity on here - 10 out of 10 for Halfords!!

Hi,

I've had a similar problem with poor sound quality. I've tried the Harman Kardon Drive + Play but as it just plugs into the aerial socket the quality is noticably poorer than normal radio/CD (in my opinion anyway!)

I've yet to find a perfect solution - gone back to putting the ipod in my shirt pocket and useing the headphones!

Good luck

Hi Dave,

I've found the CTALRIPOD003 on their website which seems to be great but says it only works with BP9262 Single CD/22DC597 C42 (BMW Block)

How can I find out if that's the model my Freelander has?!

So, from this post and your next one in this thread I figure you gave up trying to wire something to the headunit. I understand there is no way of connecting a extrenal cd changer to a fl5cdx6, therefore, no ipod either!!!

Here (Rio de Janeiro) we have ALL frequencies covered with pirate radios (major problem in ALL Brazil big cities), thus the FM gizmo is not an option.

I searched a lot the web but could not find any definitive yes or no regarding to wiring something to the fl5cdx6.

Could you figure what that spare lead was?????

If you confirm to me that there is no way I will know I am out of options!!!!

Thanks

Jorge
