Discovery 200tdi Flange convertion help

right guys

just about to lose the plot with my landy.

Basically i was off roading 2 weeks and the donut on my 300tdi decided to give in so thought right no probs will get a 200tdi prop and 200tdi flange sorted etc.. anyway puts the flange on all nice and tight ( bare in mined my diff is the type where you screw into spine NOT the Bolt type (reasons for this anyone?) anyway soon i all bolted it up i moved it 20 metres down the road come back and every time i lift of the power you get a horrible whineing noise then soon as you hit the power again it goes away. soo thought great diffs gone as there was little movement in the flange/prop. soo sourced a new diff today done 100k like new etc was no play in flange fitted it but new flange on no play in shaft etc thought happy days .. drives it out of my road soon as i left of getting this whining noise again and its defo the diff. i got under the landy again and i have play in the flange again ??

Totally lost etc am i missing something? its like the flange is not pulling the diff pinion shaft tight or there is something else missing

when you fitted flange did you fit the spacer ,3 bolt flanges have spacer built in only late 4 bolt ones do

basically i got a diff today and it came off a 300tdi with a 3 bolt flange. the flange had no play at all .. so bascally this is a run down i did

Took Pin out of 3 bolt flange
Un did Screw what holds 3 bolt flange on
Pulled flange off
Got 4 bolt flange and fitted with dirt seal metal thing .. what slides on new flange (yes the right way round)
put new flange on
put bolt.. what bolts back into shaft with spacer out of 3 bolt flange and tightend up with gun ?

this right ?

3 bolt doesnt have this spacer as seperate item its built into flange Land Rover Rear Diff Pinion Spacer on eBay!
it is needed on most 4 bolt flanges

directly before flange without it your not putting any preload on the bearing and it can move 1/2 an inch out of its race

right so basically just put this spacer onto the flange before or after the dirt metal guard ? or just side on the shaft and put flange on after and nip it up ?

fit spacer then flange ,mud shield should be pressed onto flange first

it doesnt as it uses the later 4 bolt flange with spacer built on to end of the flange ,spacer just goes over pinion before flange does

As James has said the spacer is 'built-in' on the end of the flange -

the chap in the vid holds it up to show you ...

spacer just goes over pinion before flange does

look at different lengths of flange and hence need of a spacer to make up

There are two different 4-bolt input flanges.

One requires the spacer and one doesn't.
