Front Centre Seat Removal

Help,

Trying to remove front central seat from Defender 90 td5 as it as much use as tits on a fish when compared to the luverly cubby box the missus has bought me for my bday.

Any tips or handy hints on removing the rear bolts from the front seat frame - can't really see how to get at the domed hex head tops as the seat frame is in the way. frustrating as every time I try it rains down the back of my pants. and seriously I cant see how to get at the heads to retain them from moving whilst undoing the nuts from underneath through the inspection plate of the transmission tunnel.

Yep, searched and seen before posting - thread doesent help.

Perhaps my use of the phrase hex headed screws was a little missleading. They are dome headed with what either feels like a allen key hole or standard cross headed screw. They are crudded up enough for me to assume (possibly wrongly) that they are original. If they were just standard Hex headed bolts, I'd of had the buggers out by now.

I'm off to give it a good seeing to with an old chisel.

there should be enough room to get a grinder in underneath and cut the buggers off from the bottom.

Yes, yes indeed they are T30s to be precise. No grinding required just a wife with nice skinny arms to screw them off whilst I held the nut with a socket.

Eventually managed to get at them from the rear between bulkhead and seat.

Will post full instructions on how I did the whole job once I have fitted my Cubby.

Would an extension rod do if a skinny arm wasn't available? Having the same problem with Def TD5

Did mine the other week, take out the centre panel, fold down the driver or passenger seat back flat(ish) and lean over. I found my normal Draper Allen keys, with the ball ends gets in on an angle on the back bolts. Reach under and undo the nuts, holding the bolt still. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Done it; after a bit of swearing and a scratched arm - at least it's sunny today so no wet rrrrs. Think previous owner must have put new seat in as bolt came off much easier than normal for a landie.
