Hey,

I want to fit bucket seats into my Defender, ideally Sparco R333s.

Though was talking to a mate of mine about fitting and he said that fitting bucket seats will move the drivers position closer to the steering wheel, being 6'3 I really dont want to be any closer.

Is it true that fitting bucket seats will move my position forward? If so is there a solution to not?

Normally the solution would be a bulkhead removal bar, however my rollcage sits just behind the bulkhead so removing it wouldnt make that much of a difference if any.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Josh

they were in when i bought it, But its flush with the dog gaurd thats behind the seat and thats onto the rear bulkhead, so i reckon its far back as it goes,
Any further forward it would be a nightmare to get in and out of..

from what i've read (not got a defender) it does move the seat position forward, however, you can replace the rear bulkhead with a strengthening bar which will allow the buckets to go further back and give you a better driving position.

This

I am looking into it, mine has had the bulkhead removed and rebuilt further back, I need to get a seat and try it out, see whats what

I've fitted scooby seats which sit higher & back a bit but then got a smaller steering wheel. You can't go too high or you'll have to duck to see out the side window & the centre mirror will be in the way looking out the front.

It depends on the seat! Some are quite thick in the back so if you have a bulkhead then yes youll lose valuable room. some are fine. Some may give more room. It needs a lot of measuring to figure out. Or remove the bulkhead, that's what I did, I'm 6'3" also put the seat a little more towards the centre with a slightly smaller wheel. It transformed it;)

Bit off topic, what sort of roof do you use in conjunction with your roll cage? I'm after a cage for my soft top 90 and yours looks just the ticket :D

Cheers, Harry

It was built to be as low as possible, as it was lifted a lot, initially it had a vinyl soft top over the cage, then a shaped remove able ally sheet secured under the cage worked well with the door tops and hood sticks with a vinyl rear! No photos tho I'm afraid as it was rarely on, it was just a toy really.

Nice:) they may even give more room cos they're really thin in the back! It's the reclining ones that tend to be fatter and need a bit more room, not all of them tho!

Yeah they are cobra sixonetwo.
But VERY un comfortable on long journeys hence the cousion ;-)

I had some buckets/recaro type seats for my little 80 inch trialer but they were removed for defender seats because they give more room and being an 80 inch no spare room

Looks good, so didnt move your position forward at all?

I have the exact same seats as sible and can confirm they are un-comfortable as fu*k going any further than the local supermarket, i took my mint defender seats out to put these in and i hate them now. When im back in the country one of the first things i do will be to get rid of them.

So anyone want a pair of the buckets in the above picture with defender subframes? :D

Can't wait to see your 80 inch ;-)

Ooh hello sailor :lesbian-lovers:
