I go to Middlesborough and back on 21st, which is only a few miles from Redcar/Marske.

Can hold the trailer here (bit closer) till further arrangements can be made. I should be going to Wales towards the end of October ...

Don't have a Nato hitch, but do have a 'normal' towball and pin for eye bolt hitch .. Like this, see attachment ..

Don't think a nato eye will fit behind the pin.......didn't on mine anyway.

I could run it down the M5 from Gloucester/Cheltenham to Bristol if it can be got this far

Ah, weren't sure so thought I'd mention it!

If OP buys the Nato hitch I'd be happy to bung it on and use that.

Hi both, I will be buying the hitch as well.

Paul, That is very kind of you, I can wait until the end of October no problem, and can meet you in Wales.

No worries then, get it all arranged for me to collect on 21st this month and pm me the details .. I'll let you know the exact date we're to be in Wales and we can work out a meeting point somewhere .. ;)

No worries.

Will a Nato hitch have same hole dimensions as a normal tow ball? I suspect not. If anyone has the sizes available, or the seller can measure what the holes are I can drill my drop plate to suit, if necessary.

Nato hitch will need to sit at a different height on a disco though wont it unless your's has been lifted a decent amount and is running big tyres :p

Pretty sure it has to be anyway but yes same bolts

Thanks.

Back end sits reasonably high, and I have a receiver and drop hitch that I can use the top holes on .. the trailer's (maybe/probably/hopefully) going to be empty so it's only to move it, not for 'real' use.

Looks like it could still be a bit low, the nato is mounted through the rear x member on the fenders so might need to fabricate a piece of 5mm steel just to move it up a few inches then bolt through on plate

Right, so if I can make a plate that makes the Nato hitch bolt to roughly the height of the receiver socket that should be OK? Got loads of 5mm plate .. and some 8mm .. ;)

Not used a Nato trailer before other than a mates a long while ago and can't remember any details other than it was feckin' heavy duty!

Yep mate :)

Basically just need to get it up to the height it would be on a military fender so probably about rear bumper on your disco I'd say, then you need to either pull the pin on the nato or pull the pin on the trailer depending on which one is static and which is selectable. Never have both moving though!

I'd suggest using the 8mm just to be safe ;)

No sweat, it's all do-able .. in fact after thinking laterally .. Just need to drill the receiver part of the tow hitch bit, remove my towbar, and it's all done and ready!! ;)

Yep .. it's OK, I think my normal towplate turned upside down will work fine, thanks. So long as you're happy for me to collect on the 21st. Can't say a time yet 'cos we have to drop son off at Uni, and he has to pick his keys up and transfer his belongings into digs .. dunno how long it'll take. Last year it took ages ...
