the 220 turbo has been done - uses the same ( or similar) gearbox. needs clutch housing swapped, I believe, but gives the option of a torsen LSD if going fwd. 
the T & K engines are almost identical.

Dropping a T16 in there was one option on the table before the pump was chosen as a solution. Me and DD have chatted about it quite a bit. What was it you wanted to to the transmission you crazy fecker? Drop in Integrale diffs or some such madness ?!
For a purely off-raod toy I would totally do it, but the high fuel consumption and insurance makes in impratical for my day car.
Tell you wot, my K series pulls like the fecking Flying Scotsman since I dropped that pump in. I wish I could get some real data on it but I really think I've increased torque and BHP considerably - I fly out of junctions now no matter how lightly I play the throttle and I can accelerate from 60 to 70 in a matter of heatbeats now, whereas before it was a total slug.

all these folks saying change the engine......i find it more challenging to keep the k in mine.
i'm not talking about bolting silly wheels on it and painting zebra stripes all over it, that is personalisation and not what i need mine for

There are all kinds of things you could do to a freelander to turn it into a rally beast, and it would be a oil tanker's hold full of fun to do them. But for on road everyday and some green laning use, I don't think injun swapping is really an option.
But it is nice to make it "yours" even if that's something as simple as some light guards and a nudge bar.

I don't see the point in making yourself lots of work by building an already existing model! It's most likely easier and cheaper to just go and upgrade! But I do see the point in doing something totally different that no one else has done! Like a T series turbo lump in a freelander! Some would say its a waste of time, or money, or it'll explode, etc etc. but they're personal opinions. If its done well and safely, why not? It's a challenge, it's satisfying, it proves to the world that you can! But it'd be a toy not an every day driver! That's what you have to remember, to some it's a hobby. I've been through so many cars because I just find them boring, but if I've got a toy on the go it makes the borin one acceptable cos I can have fun building it or driving it!

My zebra stripes are part of a professionally designed graphics package, it's a mobile advert for my business. The reason you haven't seen a full photo of it is cos I'll get done for spamming most likely and I don't want to upset people! I have a D2 done in the same livery. The freelander engine is bog standard the Disco isn't! The freelander is more for advertising, but fun comes into it. The Disco is a work horse, it carries a lot of weight and tows big trailers so I wanted more power. An engine transplant is on the cards for the freelander but it'll be when I have the time and spare cash, I have a few ideas, but not sure which way to go yet, but it'll be about proving a point, because so many people just look on Freelanders as being pointless? I've already turned mine from a bog standard base model welly boot green plastic bumper model into something that people take photos of and talk to you about for ages! Not many freelander owners can claim that!
But having said all that I have no problem with people that just want a car and treat it as such, but ones that neglect them until the explode are beyond me though

Your insurance is pretty flexible though isn't it mate? So an engine transplant wouldn't be too much of a problem for you - if anyone's in a poistion to give it a go I think it's you .
