I have what I presume is a non-standard DVD and SatNav, most of which is missing, and I would appreciate any information about exactly what I have.

In place of the normal Sat Nav screen, I have an "FD-2560 5.6 inch COLOR LCD" (see photo). The Sat Nav unit is missing from the boot. In place of the air vents at the rear of the [broken] centre console, there is a DVD player (see photo). And in the rear of each front headrest there is space and wiring for a screen (see photo), which is normally hidden under original headrest covers.

With the car came a manual for an Alpine Smart Map Pro GPS, and written in biro on the front is "NVE-NO55PV" which I presume is the model number of the missing Sat Nav unit. Also written in biro is "v4.01" and "NVS-HB06 is latest (June 03)", the latter of which presumably refers to the Sat Nav CD - which is also missing.

I have an invoice from May 2003, when the previous owner bought the car, which mentioned the following two bits of work undertaken:

"Rectify the DVD / Sat Nav system and reposition to allow usage of the boot"

"Supply 3 IR headphones for DVD"

Needless to say, there are no headphones in the car....

However, the DVD player does play DVDs OK, which show on the front screen. There is no sound, so presumably the system is IR only and not linked in to the HK system.

I am not too fussed about getting the Sat Nav working, as it would be cheaper and more convenient to use a mobile unit or smartphone. But it would be nice to get the DVD system back into operation.

Any thoughts?

Well, I've tried to answer my own questions...

Front screen is a Necvox FD-2560 and requires a small remote control (not sure of the part number). Rear screens were possibly also Necvox ones; both backplates are present, but one is broken. So, I would need a backplate, two screens, and some IR headphones. Anyone know a good AV specialist in the East Midlands?

Sat Nav is an Alpine NVE-NO55PV (32-bit). To get it working again, I would need a CD unit to go in the back (the wiring is all there), a remote with a joystick thing on, and a map CD (NVS-HB01 to HB06). That is assuming the control unit is still working - I don't even know where this is in the car...

I am quite literally weeping. Poor old girl reminds me of those fadeing stars of Hollywood who have had cheap plastic surgery " Am I not beautifull ?"

Whoever put that together should be shot. They have butchered the interior and that screen installation. They haven't even cut the hole neatly.

:p

She was indeed a poor, sad old girl when we bought her. Gradually getting better, though. I keep looking for a secondhand centre console, but they all seem to be black plastic ones, or the leather is the wrong colour.

By the way, the surgery was done when she was a mere teenager...

Of course, the question now is - should I ditch the whole DVD system and install something else in its place?

The hole is actually very neatly cut. Trouble is, the plastic surroung hgs slightly warped over time, so it looks from an angle like the edges aren't straight (which they are). The reason I took the photo at that angle is I didn't want to appear reflected in the screen :D It looks absolutely fine when viewed normally.
