Can't say I blame you, they're a pain in the neck. Mine has only survived this long because of other, more important jobs needing doing. All that I would say is, with the way they keep messing about with the MOT test, do it in such a way that doesn't show to an MOT examiner.

I know my MOT man well enough for him to turn a blind eye to something like this - not saying I could get a banger through he's not stupid!

like i said, egr bypass looks just like a normal EGR just been welded shut

is the EGR on the 2.5 DSE easily visible ?

but the cheapskates way. but remember that doesnt get rid of the crappy valve which limits a lot of airflow. the bypass solves that hence the better performance after fitting one.

I said remove - not block off, I'd be looking at doing it properly. Just wanted to know who's done it - who hasn't and reasons for and against

as far as i know you cant just remove the EGR ???

so you fit the bypass which is the same as taking the EGR out and fitting a straight piece of pipe in its place :frusty:

Just block the vacuum pipe from the modulator. If the new MOT is properly applied removal of the valve will be obvious and should constitute an unauthorised mod and therefore a failure.

The expensive EGR valve substitute makes diddly squat difference to the air flow or engine performance. Other than in the bull**** text they use to sell them. On a normally asperated engine maybe a little, on one having air forced in by a bloody great turbo a waste of money. Penny is a much more cost effective method.

That's the sort of thing I'd be looking into - but I'm not paying nearly £50 for something I can make in an hour in my workshop?

The expensive EGR valve substitute makes diddly squat difference to the air flow or engine performance. Other than in the bull**** text they use to sell them. On a normally asperated engine maybe a little, on one having air forced in by a bloody great turbo a waste of money. Penny is a much more cost effective method.

I'd be making it myself and not wasting money (just time) I'd want to to it this way just because it would look neater

My understanding is that if it's there it has to work - ie: extra lamps must be wired in? EGR can't be blocked? not there can't be tested?

If the car was fitted with an EGR as standard it HAS to have one. What are the lamps for you have lost me? Fitting a bypass will give you no performance enhancement that blocking it with a penny will not give. Blocking it allows all the electronic parts to continue to function even the valve will still open and close but no exhaust gas will be admitted to the manifold. So in appearence a standard EGR. Don't believe all the crap in the ads.

Thanks for clearing that up Wammers I'll make a blanking plate and block The EGR off at the manifold (bit more arty f@rty than a penny)

Undo and remove two 8mm bolts, two minutes, lever pipe back, insert one penny, one minute, refit bolts, two minutes. Undetectable and easily removed if needed.

do it you can buy a blank of even with a pipe feed the the egr solinoid but keep the old one just in case (mot)
