hello all back again with another interesting problem. i have rebuilt my 4.6 v8 from my rang rover p38 refitted it and i had a problem with the oil pump not priming i finally got it running after replacing the front timing cover and oil pump for a replacement. as soon as she fired up i notest a lot of oil poring out of the bell hosing at the back of the engine and front of the Auto gear box i removed the cover to the torque converter and it was fall of gearbox oil
Is there anything special you should do when refitting the engine to and auto gearbox ?
should you fit the torque converter first then bolt the engine to that or can u bolt to torque converter to the engine and fit it as one unit ?
should the gear box be in park or neutral when you start it after a refit ?
also how much oil should i put in the gearbox before the engine is run ? as you should cheek the level when its running in neutral
