Anyone done it before? What sort of job is it?

Basically my 300 is running on 3, It has been like this since a week ago when it suddenly went (I had just done a headgasket previous to this but it was all fine up till this point). I took it apart and the back rocker had smashed itself and the brass lifter which the pushrod goes into had smasehed. I replaced these bits but its still the same. I took the rocker cover off and the back 2 rockers are not going in time at all, it looks like I have damaged the cam...

So, is it a big job? Does it slide out the front? I have searched but cant find anything on the subject which is a bit dissapointing. I am contemplating replacing the engine at this point....

comes out the front as far as I'm aware- rebuilt a 200 tdi years ago so my memory is foggy.

you need to remove head ,front timing cover, sump, oil pick up pipe ,all sprockets and timing housing ,vac pump and lift pump

This is what I was thinking, maybe its time to replace the lot, new engine or new disco, will have to sleep on this one... I do fancy a V8 disco....

is unusual for cam to suffer ,its common for brass followers to snag in guide as both wear

I have replaced this once already and its done the same again, last time it snapped the rocker shaft and the brass guide, I can only assume its something else inside the engie thats causing it and cam is the next step...

just the brass follower or guide as well ,would seem strange for cam to cause it ,

The brass guide which the push rod sits into was smashed on the cup, the rocker shaft also snapped. Its all very odd, really dont know what to make of it but both the rear two rockers aren't moving as they should. I cant understand why a brand new follower would go again, all I can think is it must be the cam...

unless the cam bearing isn't parallel, I had this on a cvh engine head that cooked and cracked the cam, they replaced it and it cracked again- replacement head I fitted cured it.

To be honest unless your committed, you say you replaced it once and unless you can rectify the underlying issue 100% then it is liable to do it again.

This is why im thinking of just replacing the engine, I know my head is good so I can break my engine for spares and prob cover the costs...

Might not help you in the decision making but I know of a V8 running LPG for sale. Needs some work rust issues looking into. It needs to be sold ASAP as guys going to work abroad. I can copy and paste from kent off road forum if you need any info.
