Diesel Injector cover plate

What purpose does the injector cover plate have on a P38 Diesel? Mine hasn't got one and I just wondered if I needed to get hold of one?

If you mean the plastic engine cover. It makes the engine look nice.

No, its a metal plate.

Its a metal plate that as far as i can see runs from the back of the engine to the front between the cylinder head and the inlet manifold.

It has no function other than to trim the top of the engine and it should be plastic. Unless there was a metal one on the earlier engine with the alloy inlet manifold. What is the manifold made of?

If it's pre EGR I have a spare one, not sure what it's made of, long time since I took it off.

Mine is pre egr and it has plastic trim covers in black
