my landrover series 3 restoration project

the landrover ready for the restoration to start

got the doors and hard top off the day i had it

then i got the wings and radiator and front pannel off:scratching_chin:

then the floors and seatbox out and sills and the back tub, then it was wash time the gearbox come up wel with degreaser !

i got the bulkhead and engine and box out then ready to put in the new chassis. all i have to do now is get the front axle off and rear!

i spent 2 weeks on it, but only at nights after school...

funny thing is when i started mine there was only crashbox had one this colour and model on the go but now there seems to be half a dozen sprouted up in the last 6 weeks

it seems that this site has inspired a younger generation to revive these simple old motors and apreciate motoring for what it really is

secretly i like to think its my thread and crashboxes that have caused people to start restoring and running old landys by way of inspiration weather thats true or not ill probably never know

its just really nice to see another series getting some propper attention and a chance to live again

ye i am putting a new chassis on her, and ye i love the old series 3's,my first one was a old truck cab one and it was a shed haha i painted that one, but as i am only 13 i thought this would be a great project for me cheers

Good work on the stripdown so far Harri, I reckon it was Johnny Curts threads that has encouraged me to keep going. I reckon your chassis looks restorable but maybe worse than it looks in the pictures. I'll bet if me an' Johnny had half a day on it we could restore that chassis.

got the axles off the chassis on sunday and ive only got a couple of other things to do and then i can rebuild the axles and start on my new chassis.

yer know that chassis is salvageable as crashbox said it would be half a day with us 2 and approximately £100 worth of 3mm sheet steel and welding wire / gas and a fair few grinder wheels but easily possible :smokin:

Coo, wish I had a forklift! Looking good, I'd have a go at patching that chassis too...good welding practice!

yeh ive already bought a good condition chassis and im going to get it galvanized like my mate did

If you havent done so, I would grind off the mounting plates for the tub and seat box. The new chassis might not have them.

I wouldn't grind owt off owt till you know for definite ..

But I must admit, I've seen worse chassis get through MOT's .. when covered in suitable layer of oil and grease ... I very nearly bought my first series with a worse chassis than that, until I actually touched it with a small hammer ...
