Just renewed my insurance and as usual they asked if there were any modifications, so i said i was going to fit a winch bumper and winch and was this classed as a mod, the guy said it was, even mud tyres are a mod so be careful to tell your insurance company anything you do to your landy as you may not be covered if you dont ! you have been warned lol

I was just thinking this, at the moment mine hasn't got anything declared (I wasn't 100% up on what was standard/optional equipment and whats a mod)

Freewheeling hubs, overdrive, raptor dashboard, etc - does all this "minor" stuff have to be declared as I know some insurers only allow a certain number of modifications - could potentially run out with all the "small" ones!

Officially yes, but I tend to only declare stuff that increases performance, adds to value, increases number of seats or makes it more desirable to tea leaves

yep good price. i went in and chucked the cash over the counter.nice to deal with local and face to face, not on end of phone.
i actually got some biz from them.i leave them one of my tuck boxes now.:clap2:

All third party claims will be paid. No such thing as an uninsured driver, as all 3tpc will be paid.
You will be no worse off.
If you have comp insurance then, you are chucking your money away if you are not telling the truth. Bottom line you make any false statment they they do not need to pay, so Guess what they wont.

yep truth.

and anyway whats not to like speaking to some idiot on the end of the line who hasn't got the foggiest what a dif is let alone what a snorkel is for, I had that a couple of years ago and all i got was "what performance enhancement doers it give?"
mind you last year I contacted footman james for a quote and got the best answer yet " do you use it off road?" yes i did say, there response " we cant cover you if you use it off road"

then lancaster wanted £1400 for a 97 disco:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

finally Adrian Flux came in with sense

i await the fun later this year

and when u have an accident they can then wriggle out of a claim

only a fool doesnt declare any modification to there vehicle and by modification thats anything added not as it left the factory

Agree with you Wilstshire, and will declare the tow bar I'm about to add - I do draw the line at telling them about 'small' things such as fog lights - maybe wrong, it's just how I've always played it.

That said, 30 years driving and not had to make a claim - long may that continue:rolleyes:

my disco is 89 ive had it about 5 years.... its got a pair of spot lights on the front bumper, cyclone alloys and the radio probably isnt the one fitted origionally , how can the insurance or me actually know whether these items were fitted in the factory, or by one of the numerous previous owners....... and the tyres are black round things put on by the tyre place down the road..... i assume they are simlilar size and spec to the origionals , but ive no idea what tyres it came out the factory on.
imho the whole insurance industry wants a kick up the backside..... all i really want/need is third party cover at a sensible price without having to spend a week trying to track it down and i want it to cover me in whatever vehicle i happen to be driving...... ive got seven at the moment but i can only drive one at a time.

It can be a grey area concerning modifications. for instance a set of tyres uprated shocks and what not may be fitted to a vehicle when someone buys it but hasn't a clue what is standard.
How many series are still standard i wonder ?
