V6 freelander has had this fault for ages, tried a few things which have improved things, but it still not right. Main dealers have looked at it and cant find the problem but aggree its not right. No fault codes either

Its a 2003 model with wire accelerator.

When you floor it whilst travelling, sometimes it does nothing, waits a couple of seconds and then wham bam slams the gear in and from then on its fine accelerating good and hard. Doesnt matter if its dropping from 5th or 4th or 3rd, to second, does it in any gear. Its as if the gearbox does not know what speed the engine is doing and so it guesses and hence the very harsh drop down. Best example is you go to overtake, floor it and nothing happens.

So far I have fitted a new throttle posistion sensor, still no good, fluid was checked by LR and that is clean and good so they say....

Any ideas, It getting me down so much now that its making want to sell it. Had plenty of other problems which I have been able to sort but this is baffleing everyone........... Help!

Mine does the same, i pull out to overtake, floor it, screams its knackers off in neatral, i ease off an tuck in behind the plodding doilem im trying to get past, AHHHHHH.

Do you have any other faults like hdc failure, abs failure? Can you select sport mode on the auto lever and does it hold gear longer when going faster?

I had the same/similar problem many moons ago on a previous FL. Garage said the torque converter was faulty and had to be replaced. Job done, at least another 8000 miles no problems, before selling it. I have no idea what had gone wrong, just the fix worked.
