So the Freelander 2003 went in for an oil change and came out with a different problem. Mechanic handed me these two pieces of metal/rust and said he had tied the exhaust on with wire until I get them re-welded or bought new.

I'm thinking these are so rusty they look like medieval and require replacing new for old. Searching for them however is another issue. What exactly should I be googling? Presumably I will also require two rubber mounts that connect exhaust to car that look like this???:

Advice appreciated..

Hi,

The rubber hangers are easy - £3.99 + postage on eBay.

As for the metal brackets - you can't buy those - they come welded on to the actual exhaust-box.

I'm guessing that if the brackets have rusted through then the box itself can't have much life left in it - so it's probably not worth getting new brackets welded on.

The rear box costs less than £45 post free from some suppliers.

I'd get a new one if I were you, rather than faff about.

Hope this helps.

Oh right, I was under the impression that these metal rods had came off the car itself.

 Ohmigod  I'm so sorry - that didn't occur to me - I've never heard of that happening on a Freelander - how old is the car?

You will need to have a look underneath yourself to check.

If the brackets are off the car then they will have to be replaced - any decent welder will be able to fix new hangers made up from steel rod as long as he has the originals to copy.

Sorry again.

You were correct the first time. The rods have came off of the front or middle part of the exhaust. Typically the cat converter part which is most expensive as far as I'm aware.

Going to get it welded during the week. Thanks for your help.
