hey Lynall my landy keeps hunting and she keeps losing oil pressure (the oil pressure wont stay at the same point it use to but it did it before she just needed a new bit of hose but i cant find a leak this time)?? ive done some work to try and fix it like spark plugs and looked for a leak but as i said im not a real mechanic and dont have all the right tools LOL so its a bit like hit or miss and im near swanley

hi drwatson well that's true but im a student so i dont have a lot of spare money so ive done all of the work myself im really just looking for someone who and give me good advice and help with fault diagnosis... anyway i thought, or i know thats why i got one, it was why people got old landys cos they are cheap to fix and keep LOL

ive got one and as i said ive done all of it so far myself but i cant find out what's wrong this time if i could i would of done it LOL

Well as its a petrol and i know sweet fanny adams about petrols i cant help, but i would say the only reason the oil pressure is fluctuating is down to the erratic tickover, ie it drops so does the oil pressure.
I would be looking for an air leak, i think plus gas is the one to use, spray it around all the intake gaskets and joint and if the engine revs pick up you have found your air leak.
I would say all the ignition components are cheap so would be worth changing them all, leads, points, condensor etc.

Good - hard to find now.

cheap - even harder.

Good and Cheap, more chance of a flying pig, but if there are any they're probably landy owners.

Scrappy, hunting engine would upset the oil pressure. Is it more of an erratic idle or does the RPM rythymically build and plummet?

Worn distributor shaft gives rise to erratic idles but possibly air leak in the inlet manifold may cause symptoms. carb may have partial blockage in the idle jet or orifices. Yes id start with a carby clean out if its hunting in the rythymical sense.
