bring back the disco all is forgiven.......except the rust
well i bit the bullet and got meself a 90, few problems with it so far, electrical fire, fooked prop and lots of rust
my annoyance at the minute is i got a lift kit for her, +2" bearmach springs the hd stiff ones, and a set of +2" pro comp shocks, had to cut all the old stuff out but fitted it all with no problems.
when i fitted the suspension none of the springs had part numbers on so it was guess work which was which, now me being a scouser thinking isnt really my strong point but i came to the conclusion that the bigger springs would go on the front to account for the added weight of the engine etc and the smaller on the back as there isnt much weight there, after fitting it all i read that the larger ones should be on the back to allow for carrying weight, so i quickly changed them round before anyone noticed, but now, the rear sits a good bit higher than the front and to be honest it looks a bit daft! have i got it right putting the bigger springs on the back? how do i go about getting the front to be a bit taller to level out with the back? also on the front ive noticed the bottom of the schock is sitting on the axle itself and causing it to rub and move over rough ground, surely this isnt right?

So in summary, you bought a pretty knackered 90, I presume without actually viewing it first.

And instead of fixing it, you've bought some half arse lift kit instead?

not only you... i fitted em wrong way round too.. but i had to go to work so drove it like that for a day... couldnt see the road infront and could only see the floor in the rear view mirror...

mine sits a little higher at the back, i think its due to the hd springs.. put a concrete flagstone in the boot.... i carry that much stuff in the back of mine i dont notice it summuch..

i guess ya mean the ends of the threaded bit where the nut holds em in at the bottom?

if ya worried bout em being too long chop a bit off the end...

They are a complete pain in the arse but unfortunately, most of us love them! They're fantastic when everything is right and once you've got it right, it'll be right for a long time. I always think 90's look a bit better with the back slightly higher than the front and it's certainly right for a fresh set of springs - some brands more noticeable than others. I certainly wouldn't let it worry you. Put a few slabs in the back for a week or so, see if it settles down a bit ;) As for your shock absorber, it sounds like the spring base has rotten through where the damper bolts to the bottom. Spring back out, have a look and splice a patch in or put in an array of suitable washers.

We all live in an irrational world, 300 bhp. We drive Land Rovers. The rationality ends there. Easy.

And not a noob, Matt has nearly 300 posts.

no, i bought a land rover that had a few issues, that were unclear or worse than first appeared, but isnt that ofcoarse what land rovers are all about? without actually viewing...no id seen it nearly every day for a while as it was a friends. half arse lift kit? not quite, the best my funds would allow, and any issues were after the kit was fitted so im not going to fix something that too my knowledge doesnt need fixing now am i?
so in summary your a bit of a cock and your input was a waste of pixels on my screen?

What make you go for HD? And yeah you have to chop a bit off the shocks so they don't rub!
As some1 has pointed out why didn't you spent the money on fixing your 90 before bolt on crap?

thanks guys for all the sensible posts. and as for being a noob, check my join date ;)

so heres some pics would you say this is normal, i just really dont like the look

did you lose the ability to read when you posted this or did you miss mine, the issues im having now happend AFTER the lift kit was fitted so why would i spend money fixing something that at the time didnt need doing??

shorter springs at front because of axle/spring plate angle usually an inch shorter ,spring plate at rear sits level ,dont fit bearmach blue springs and procomps as never seem to be right nowadays i find britpart yellow springs and shockers better ,even replacent from air to coils for disco from bearmach seem too high

Back might be fractionally high from your pics, but doesn't look wrong wrong.

Throw some weight in the back, leave it a few weeks and see if the level settles after a bit if use.

Accept you're not sure just now, but think you'll not even notice in a few days:)

Perfectly normal and it looks like a really nice motor. Wish mine sat a bit higher at the back like that!
