Oh, you know how army hummers can more or less dive to the bottom of the river bed and proceed to drive along just fine (youtube proven) don't try it

How deep is the water?
As far as engine goes... are you running carbs or EFI?
If the latter is your ECU safe and water tight?
Assuming you have a sealed raised air intake and axle breathers, the next thing to look at is electrics. The distributor won't like getting wet, so a can of water dispersal (WD40) might be a good idea.
If it's prolonged use, then some more robust form of protecting the distributor and coil might be worth looking at.
Some would also say an electric fan is worth while over a viscous one, as you can switch it off to stop splashing. Some people also run some sort bilge board or cover to reduce water flow into the engine bay.
Lastly, interior, it'll leak. Door seals are not up to preventing water ingress.

If it's going to be frequent maybe taller tyres and a suspension lift might be an idea?
A 2" lift on 33/34" tall tyres will place everything the best part of 4 inches higher than a stock Defender.
That said,
with very little prep I took my Disco through this:
The only issue was a knackered starter motor a few days later.

There are loads of different ways of lifting a Landy and with different prices and results. Some will improve suspension flex, some won't. 1 cheap option is to fit some spring spacers/packers. Easy to fit and works. The Landy will still ride the same and handling will only be affected by the higher C of G. Speak to David at Llama 4x4 for more info: Llama 4x4 Official website bottom of the page. Next up would be to swap on some taller springs. This will be more costly than the packers. And as a rule will make the Landy ride harder. Or you could look at swapping the shocks with the springs and different mounting points if you are wanting more suspension droop. Personally I'd go for the packers and see how you get on. You could always sell them on should you change your mind later on.

Replacing the viscous fan with an electric one is a good idea as they throw the water up onto the distributor causing it to misfire and cut out. One good mod is to buy a rubber boot to go over the dizzy to keep the water off it,or if your a tight git like me a cut down pop bottle will do the job aswell
I've used one for the dizzy and one for the coil and i've been in water about 3 foot deep without any major problems

Cut down 2ltr bottle works great. Cable tie coil lead on and grease up coil end. Cable tie all leads onto dizzy cap and spray grease. Remove dizzy and seal up holes underneath, and seal dizzy cap on. Watertighting the dizzy is the difference between your v8 having a little cough for a bit, or cutting out immediately when hitting deep water.
Mine did this without a single misfire. If the dizzy was not sealed it would have cut out.

To the OP, you might find some pointers if you do a search.If I remember well, when the V8 section started there was a thread called who says v8's can't swim and I know Mr.Noisy has posted a couple of times on some of his waterproofing mods. Trust me a V8can swim but it is a question of degree, if you just want to be confident for a bit od occasional wading not much to do but if you really want to go deep then it needs some thought.
