Thinking of swapping my MG ZTT for a RR 2.5DSE.

According to the computer I get between 18-21 mpg on gas but I don't take a lot of notice of that.

I have a 90L tank in the spare wheel well and as it can only be filled to 80% that means it can take 72litres of gas and I get approx 260 miles out of that which equates to approx 17mpg and at 63p/litre I'm well happy with that

I have a 100 litre tank, takes around 80 litres and will do 200 miles round town, 250 mixed use or 300 miles on a motorway run on LPG. Costs around 73-74p/litre here.

What the opinions on changing the air suspension to standard coil springs as I have seen a few that have been done. I guess it looses some of the comfort of the ride quality?

Cheers
Simon

Agreed.

Just been to look at a T reg 2.5 DT, up for £3495 and tbh it was a bit of a dog if I'm honest.

Quite a lot of scratches on paintwork and down to bare metal mostly, it has been converted to springs, crappy cloth interior that smelt odd, climate display didnt seem to want to work.

Started first time when he started it to move it, however when I restarted it to have a look round engine it didnt want to fire, may have been because I had the ignition on for a while but turned key off waited for glow plug light and it started in about 4-5 secs I would guess

Engine sounded OK though, but noisy and unrefined at idle but I expect that with the territory of the vehicle.

Overall very dissapointed with it for the money, Id have struggled to give him £2K for it if I'm honest.
NO evidence of any major work being done on it other than a load of chrome bits stuck on to it and rea painted calipers and newish discs.

The hunt will continue I guess.

Whats the cost of spare keys for these as I know for my car they are the best part of £200 for a fully working key?

Simon

Thought as mucm tbh a lot I have looked at are stupid priced for age and condition and only having one key not too mention lack of service history etc.

Car sales is a minefield these days as private sellers and dealers all want top buck for sub standard cars these days, they dont care what miles or whether it has 2 keys etc anymore for the majority, sad very sad :(

HI All,

Thinking of changing my car and getting a RR 2.5DSE.

It's going to have to be an older one, looking around 1998-2000 hopefully depending on price.

What sort of price is a good price aorund those ages bearing in mind most I see have over 100K miles on them?

What are the engines like in them and common faults?

Is auto or manual best? Which gives the least trouble?

My ZTT is on 135K miles currently and has had a full clutch change and is still loosing clutch fluid so I've just about had enough, it uses the same setup as the Freelander 2, I assume the RR uses a different setup?

Oh and what sort of MPG can you expect from these?

Thanks in advance.

Simon

You should be able to get a 95 for that then. :):):)

I paid 2900.00 GBP for my 2.5 DT, 3 1/2 years ago, with 86,000 miles on the clock in almost mint condition, its now showing over 110,000 miles and I reckon I've spent about 1400.00 GBP on it which includes 4 Air Springs, 4 New Tyres (new ST's from Ebay), Radiator, Viscous Fan, RF Receiver, AirCon Condenser Rad and other small bits.

All work carried out by me, the most trouble some job was when the clutch cross shaft roll pins sheared. Had to remove the transfer/main gearbox to replace 3 quids worth of roll pins, time 2 weekends in October in the cold on my back, but it was worth it.

Definitely get the suspension software/lead from Datatek and if your that hands on an BBS Extreme with SV licence.

There are good vehicles out there you just have to keep hunting until you will find one...

I love my 99MY dhse even tho' I have ended up spending a fortune on it. (don't think she who must be obeyed shares the emotion) They are great cars but as someone has already said, reserve some of your budget for the inevitable repairs. Check everything especially electrics, make sure everything works as it should. If you do end up buying one at least get Storey Wilson's EAS software and a cable (talk to Datatek) Better still get either a Faultmate or Hawkeye. You will be advised by many on here to go for the Faultmate. I have a Hawkeye and I am happy with it, I won't criticise the Faultmate as I have no experience of it. I bought my Hawkeye when I was looking for a P38 as they cover all P38s and are not tied to one VIN number and I was able to check (some) possible faults when looking at potential cars. Had one bloke refuse to let me plug it in, so I walked away. Last thing, dont be afraid to walk away if you are concerned about anything on the car, they can be very expensive to repair/maintain. Good luck!
