More key woes...

Thanks Nickffc, I appreciate your help here as it should enable me to go back to the dealer (westovers) and get them to sort it out properly. I paid for the key upfront of course so unles I can talk them into a refund I'll have to force the issue with them.

Your info from your supplier will be crucial in that respect so thanks again.

i didn't get time yesterday to collect my key so I'm going t get it this morning, then i'm going to be out most of the day, as soon as i get back I'll try and give you an update with what the parts-man had to say about ordering keys.... i suppose you could give him a call yourself if you wanted to try and clarify the procedure....if you do i said that your were a friend in Dorset as i didn't want to explain the whole forum thing.....just seemed easier....his name is Alan and he probably only knows me as Mr Ayres...!

Right.... back from getting my key....and i i have the information you need....!!

please be a aware the part number ASR1940 remote unit and key now supersedes part number ASR1941,ASR1942 AND ASR1943.

ASR1940 is a generic part number which CAN be used to order key 1.2.3 or 4. When placing an order please enter the last 6 digits of the VIN number in the serial number field, followed by the number 1,2,3 or 4 in brackets. This will indicate which key number is required.

Example

VIN=SALPAMA3Y467128

Key number 4 required

therefore, the serial number that is required is

467128(4)

note the the above is an example, please order the correct frequency requirement as below.

ASR1940 = 433MHZ
ASR1944 = 315MHZ

A revised locks and key guide reflecting the above will be issued shortly.



So..... there you have it...from the horses mouth so to speak.....

oh yeah.... and the syncing thing... total crap that they have to do it.... you get a instruction sheet with your key.....!

Huf in Germany make the key fobs, as each key has to be programmed when made it makes no difference to them whether it is programmed as 1, 2, 3, or 4 so it is unlikely that only key 1 is being made, more likely the dealers can't be bother to specify so HUF make a key 1.

They actually turn these out from their place in Wolverhampton

According to HUF, the plant at Tipton West Midlands is involved in plastic moulding, assembly and painting. The Electronics plant that produces the key FOB's is currently in Germany, although with the number of plants they now have in China I would guess that's where they will come from soon

Quite possibly, it's been a few years since I've been on either of their sites - you're right in the Tipton site being the paint shop, but they certainly used to have a plant in Willenhall which churned out locks at an eye-watering pace for an impressive array of different manufacturers.

They don't list a plant at Wilenhall anymore, probably been replaced by one of the new ones in China

Hi all, sorry to have been so long in getting back to this, has the thread gone cold?
I finally have a fully working number 2 key thanks mostly to Nickffc'c info and a lot of jumping up and down.

RR thought I was trying to con the dealers out of a new key and wouldn't admit that they hadn't told the dealers how to order a second key properly and while dealer argued with RR and RR buggered about, I had to bang heads together and finally a new key arrived.

That was my first experience of using an appointed dealer in the thought that they would be supportive and efficient and of course, it's my last.
