**** of **** to do. Remove strip clean and re build the hand brake assy and replace the rear output seal also check the breather pipe is not blocked and the output flange for making an oil tight seal. Other than that use plenty of ep80/90 on the seal when installing it job should be a goodun!

If you need any hand brake parts i have plenty and will will be able to supply refurbished bol on adjust and go hand brake assemblies for older 90's pre 300tdi's for exchange and a small fee as alot of people seem to assemble them wrongly and never acnieve the correct travel on the shoes.

spyderman took us 3.3/4 hrs to get to teignmouth Friday eve. M25, m4 m5 and a303 were stuffed when i left work so headed out the back roads hoping the m4 and m5 would be clear by the time we got there which luckily they were. No traffic all good i'll be going home the same way if the motorways nr home look crap

Came back tonight, went M5/M4 25 miles further at 210 miles, but managed it in 3 hours 5 minutes.

dito we just got in 11pm about 230 miles at a guesstamate took us 3:20 trip computer said average 67mph

Thanks for the replies re my handbreak/oil seal, work permitting I'm going to try and do it Thurs/Fri. I've already got the new shoes and retaining kit, although apart from the oil the ones in there look to be pretty new (so once soaked I'll have some spare if anyone else needs them).
Ryder I've found a couple of threads on the web with instructions and photos so hopefuly should be ok, but I like the sound of "Rave", if you've got a link so I can have a look would be good.
Sible, it's my first Defender and only got it at the begining of the year, will PM address.
One more bit of help please guys, have found a few seals on the web but I want to be sure I get the right one, it's a 98 300tdi, so I think it's a LT230T box and the S/N starts 22D is it P/N FTC4939, also should I get a new felt washer and drain plug (or anything else)? Thanks again guys.
