Guys, I know this has been done to death but I can't find what I'm looking for. I'm sure my aircon pipes are leaking. Which pipe is the most likely to be leaking and where do I locate it? Thank you. .

if u are unlucky it's around the heater matrix............dashboard off kind of fookin job.

Thanks for the reply. Before I start taking the dashboard to bits, any tips on where to start and how to try and identify the leak? I seem to remember seeing some history of leaking pipes in the engine bay?

The pipe that is situated on the left of the engine bay which goes to the front of the radiator into the dryer.

It goes thru the body next to the n/s horn and usually rubs away on itself.
Think mine cost about £50 2 years ago to replace.

Best to get it checked by an A/C engineer (not Kwik Fit) who will pump uv dye into the system and find the leak under uv light.

Quick update, I haven't found the leak yet but I did get quickfit to try a recharge. To be fair to them they tried to fix it twice, failed but did give me a full refund. Good to know that they honored their guarantee.

An a/c engineer should/will put in a dye into the system to help trace a leak.
AC engineer should also check for leaks when system vac'ed out and under preasure with (the name of the gas eludes me at the moment:doh:) and if there is any leaks he shouldn't refill with refrigerent until the leak is rectified.

Check the pipe thats arrowed, it corrodes badly under the "P" clip where the circle is, dissimilar metal corrosion between the ali pipe and the steel clip and also the stupid lump of foam that is stuffed in by the horn holds the moisture to "feed" the corrosion.

hope you don't mind me ad libbin here - but i've got one of the first 200 tdi's, 3 door diesel - 1993 - the air con isn't working - if i have it re-gassed will it have to have a cfc free conversion kit fitted first ?

I have bought the hose described with arrows the one with p clip. I am changing It the weekend. A bit concerned how to get to the back part after looking at the picture. I know as much as I need to remove the grill. Any advice appreciated. The dealer wanted £370. They wanted £360 for a service I did that last week £130 for parts.

If by back part you mean the dryer, its in front of the radiator and behind the plastic grill. When replacing this pipe be very careful when undoing the bolts. The unions are alloy and very easily twisted.

I have bought the arrowed pipe and plan to do It the weekend. The one mentioned with p clip. Can I get to the pipe at the rear ? someone mentioned I would also need to take grill off. Any advice much appreciated.

Well I heard about needing to take dashboard out. But that looks like one of the other pipes. What I was asking can I get to the pipe to change without dismantling the car.

Sorry for being sarky but -

Have you ever opened the bonnet, the two pipes pictured run along side the wing in the engine compartment, one is the high pressure one and one is the low pressure one and both are marked.
By your lack of technical knowledge it sounds as if you might be better letting someone else do the job.

Thanks for your reply I have just bought the car about 4 months ago. First land rover I've owned all though I always wanted one. So you see I am new to this I paid a 4x4 dealer to service and re gas air con. The first time I use It in baking heat with my family aboard and you guest it It didn't work. So I take It back and they quote me £370 for the job. I have realized they must be charging £100 an hour labour. I am a lorry driver and work long hours. To long to pay people silly money. So you see I have to start some where. As I said in previous message they wanted £360 for a service I did it myself £130 for parts. I had to buy a torque wrench but I have that for next time. When I have time I will lift the bonnet and do the job. I have Done loads to the car my self already I hope to do Aircon pipe the week end just trying to gain info as I have been out bid for a manual on ebay about 3 times. Didn't want to pay £20 bot looks like ill have to.

Do a search here for RAVE and download a manual for free, that's where the majority of vehicle diagrams come from on here.

It is really handy especially if loaded onto a laptop as you can have the laptop with you whilst working on the Landy.
