P38 Removable Towbar - locking?

Stupid question perhaps, but is there any way to lock the removable towbar in position to stop some pikey nicking it (and presumably whatever is attached to it)?

Didn't quite think this through when I fitted it...

Mine's the one that just plugs in when you need it and unplugs again by pulling a lever on the side.

The lever is covered by a plastic cover, presumably to prevent accidental operation, but it's no security cover. In fact, going by the number of wheel centres I keep losing (all in Farnham surprisingly), this cover will probably be nicked too if I left it unattended.

Think he means to slip in swan neck Keith. I have one, very easy to nick. And bloody expensive to replace. Always take mine out when not towing. A welder would lock it in place, but would defeat the object of having a removable towball. Leaving it fitted is a useful close parking aid i find.

Mines a removable swan neck Tony, held in place by 2 bolts that are totally immovable Yous is obviously a posher version

I did think about a cable lock running through the breakaway chain loops and whatever is on the towbar. That's about all I can come up with so far - I was just wondering if there might be a more elegant solution.

Sounds like the one I had on my XJS Guy, I thought it looked fragile and could come apart so I welded the bloody thing up. Harwoods were horrified that I would drive around with the hitch in place at all times.

Personally I think the swan neck ones look a bit girlie so I wouldn't want it on all the time. It seems solid enough when in place although I've only towed a boat with it so far.

Yeah Keith it just slides in and is locked by a detent. Real easy to nick.
