Carrying Bicycles on my 110 CSW

Hi there.

I am new to both LandyZone and new to the joys of landrover ownership. I bought a 110 CSW (its just away being serviced and MOt'd - hopefully it isn't a crock!) and I am planning to take it up to Scotland in a few weeks.

I want to carry 4 push bikes on it and wondered whether its best to buy a roof rack and lay them flat or to buy some roof bars and stand them on the roof using bike carriers - concerned that this might be unstable?

Any advice most welcome. Also any ideas of where I can buy a roof rack without paying a fortune.

Personally I wouldn't like that much extra height. If you have a tow ball you can get a bike rack to fit this - that'd be my preference if you want them on a rack Alternatively, I've had 4 people, 4 bikes and gear inside my 110 before.

We folded down the double split and had 3 in the front. Only had to take the front wheel off one. Take the wheels of all of them and you'll have plenty of space.

britpart do a good one that has braket that bolts behind spare wheel on carrier and rack for 4 bikes can be locked on/off doesnt effect door opening only takes sceonds to fit

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like that might be an alternative. One concern is that I've heard that adding a load of weight to the back door isn't too good for it. Do you think that will be a problem with 4 bikes hanging off it?

Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean about the extra height. Low bridges might be an issue!!!

We did get 4 bikes in the back behind the dog guard by removing the wheels. Unfortunately we couldn't fit the dog in aswell!

Do you know of any tow ball mounted carriers that you would recommend ?

laying them flat on the roof rack would be my preferance ... they get all the road grime on the back..... although im a very fuss chunt when it comes to my bikes ..... largely because i (for now) used to race alot and so have some very pernickety cycling kit that doesnt like to get covered in salt and oil.

if its your average familys cycling equipment it will be fine out the back.

it wont hurt if your not doing it every day,ive never had problem

Looks like you have everything but the kitchen sink on your landy! Looks like a rear mounted cycle carrier is the way to go. Cheers

Keep an eye on flea-bay for roofracks, now and again they will go for not a lot of brass

A friend uses a Thule rack, one if their ride on ones I think. Other than that I think there's a british company that go a big range of tow ball racks but I can't for the life of me remember what they're called... sorry. Let me know if you get one that you like - I might indulge at some point too.
