Just thought I'd fill you lot in on the new mot regulations that might affect you, any haters that cover steering components have to be in good condition, I.e no tears, holes or missing or it's a fail, also if there is meant to be a catalytic converter on the car then It has to be there or it's also a fail, dunno if this is useful but just thought I'd say.

do DERVS have cats ???? FYI all petrol cars since 82 have had to have cats fitted some manufacturers fitted them prior to 92 but as long as you deleted all traces of the system inc wiring then it was/is legal. I thought faulty gators on steering components was already an advisory / fail , How ever i could be wrong, I know the MOT is in for a big shake up to be on par with the likes of Germany, think its to have like an EU level so might stop all those eastern european rust buckets??? But i think its going to cause us a lot of hassle too,

Thought discos like 300tdi's had cats on them, and now if they were there they have to be there, I can see getting past it as inspectors won't know about every car and whether it has a cat or not, and if it is removed well I can see it not being too large a problem, but that's what's happened anyway, for the steering I think the difference is that it affects all ball joints now not just cv joints, such as the drop arm ball joint which I think was jut an advisiory before, I will check with father in the morning as he is the tester.

Yer that's the one

Lol np worked it out, I was not 100% on the Dervs having cats, your right about the MOT inspectors but i would not be surprised if when the tester entered the reg in the machine it highlighted certain bits ie, 4wd, Cat, rear wheel steer, front hand brake ect ect.

I think the part that's going to get us along with the modified car lot is the possible proposal to have all mods at least checked and to a certain standard. Which to be honest most of us probably over engineer or fit due to the nature of the vehicle.

This was covered some months ago, and as for gaiters as in rack gaiters there a fail already if split.
