Suspected vcu fault

Depends on how much cash you have - I don't think there is any difference in how long they will last new or recon. New about £400 to £800 I hear recon £250 max cheaper with some.

Mine is the same and I will be going for a recon not sure which dealer yet but have one in mind with a drive in drive out service.

They seem pretty good for the price and they include all the bearings and mounting btkts when other suppliers just supply the VCU for a similar price. I am in the same position as my 2005 FL1 has done over 100,000 miles on the original VCU, every time I do a long journey I have worries that the rear transmission may end up in a big heap on the motorway.

pm Austen on here first.

That was my first choice - emailed him a month or so ago - seemed decent guy and dies the drive in drive out thing. Also gives good advice on here as well. I will looking at getting mine done soon - got to sort out an inner cv joint first though.

When I looked at Bells (Austin?) price of £200 + vat it was for the basic VCU, if you want the extra parts, as per the ebay seller, you have to request the extra prices. In my opinion it would be handy if the price of the complete unit, including brkts and bearings, could be included in the Bells price list then there would be no need to look for any other suppliers (as long as the prices and reliability were comparable).

Yes but if you email him he will give you a price all in and it's pretty good to be fair
How does it compare to the £290 quoted by the ebay seller, I'm pretty sure that most members would prefer to use a respected fellow member (Austin) than an unknown ebay seller.

angeloc how long has your's been like it ??

I haven't had my latest one long but factored in the replacement in the price. It's not too bad - it's done 84k miles and I can feel it tightening a bit mor forward than in reverse funnily enough. Going to get it done soon though.

When I bought it there were 4 different Tyres on it and one a different size! All new now though so it's much better and most of my miles at the moment are gentle motorway ones so I kind of think I am not stressing it too much. Just got to find time off work to get job done.

Also I have what I think might be an inner cv joint wobble so need to sort that out as well.

Why do you ask?

We trust autin on ere.

Have you tried the one wheel up test as below to see what your vcu is doing?

Start the bar turning at the black dot, and time it to see how long it takes to travel through the thick red line.
