Hello All

I have just reg to this site, been looking at it & learing a lot from all for the last few hours.
I have a scruffy 1995 Defender 110 work horse with 300TD1.
I have learnt from this site that the gearbox is the R380.
Problem which has quickly appeared over last 2 days is that the gearstick has a lot more movement than it should do. At first gears were awkward to select, and quickly got worse with more & more play.
Been reading in this forum about Bias springs and so have taken the cover off to expose gear box, but the springs I can see are OK.
The question is this, is this likely to be a fault at the top of the gearbox which can be fixed with the box still in place. I am not a computer person but hopefully I will attach pic to show gearbox top so you can see which version it is.
If any of you say the words new gearbox or replace gearbox then you will not hear any more from me because Land Rover will go into River & so will I.
Whatever happens thanks for all the information which is already on this site.

defender boxes dont have bias plates, they have a spring which acts on a pin going thru lower lever with 10mm spanner sized adjusters to line up stick into 3rd 4th gear alignment remove turret holding lower lever theres a yoke with grub screw that can come loose ,aslo check turret as ball part of lower lever can wear ali housing

BRILLIANT, IT WORKED ! SO I HAVE ESCAPED AGAIN
I have found the loose grub screw, tightened it and now all works !
I have just come back from a short trial run, been up & down the gears & all is well.
I have not yet put all the covers back, so I can see the road as i drive along, plus more noise which all gives me nostalgia for my Series 3 days !
Anyway, hopefully I have attached a photo showing the yoke which had moved forward due to loose grub screw, you might just be able to see the indent where the screw is supposed to sit and I hope that might be useful to someone.
All I have to do now is put the transmission covers back on----or should I leave it as it is?
Thanks very much for the advice, that is MUCH appreciated, this morning I was thinking of cost for replacement gearbox . You have saved me all that money, Thank goodness you do not know where I live !!!
