Argh...Can't get an answer, wot PSI box?

I have been trying to buy a PSI powerbox, okay, simple you might say, not so. There are 2 PSI Powerboxes, 1995-1999 and 2000-2001. My Rangie DHSE is a 1999MY (confirmed by Land Rover and local dealer) VIN number is SALLPAMW3XA******
I have asked the supplier (Paddock) which PSI Powerbox I need, they in turn have asked their supplier and both have said they dont know but it IS a 1999 so it is likely the 1995 to 1999 Powerbox you need.
Now, as I understand it, the 1999MY changed to the same as the 2000 with a few exceptions. Can any of you knowledgeable gents give me a clue before I just give up and get a remap!

Don't know about PSI - can you sent them a mail via their website, perhaps they will answer based upon VIN.

In case it's of interest, I just bought one of these Power Box 2 - Diesel Fuel Saver for Range Rover P38 at www.rimmerbros.co.uk
it doesn't mention a different one for 2000 onwards ! Anyway, now done about 1500 miles and I am very pleased BIG difference in performance, makes the car what it should have been in the first place

Thanks for that nisbeam, I had a look that on their website, looks pretty good. Have you noticed an improvement in torque and fuel consumption? (It does claim to be a Diesel Fuel Saver!)

Yeah dead simple, only change as far as i am aware was introduction of EGR in 99. 98s don't have it. So basically first version for NONE EGR. Second version WITH EGR.

If these people are going to sell something they should at least know something about it. PSI would not have changed the design without a good reason.

I agree with Wammers, 99MY on has the EGR and a MAF, pre 99 no EGR no MAF. So if yours has the EGR and MAF it's the later one or vice versa.

enery8 Yes, big difference in torque. Don't know about BHP as it is more difficult to detect. But on my automatic the extra torque is obvious. Before it would 'reach' 30 mph but with a bit of clattering, now if the revs reach 2500 it launches forward - easy to get caught speeding. The other place it is noticeable it on the motorway at 70, it you need to get past something just put your foot down, no waiting, you are off !!!!
But the extra power is there all the time and the engine is clearly less stressed. Even at tickover it sounds subtly different, a slightly lower note. I haven't really measured the MPG to be honest, but it is definitely no worse despite failing to avoid putting my foot down to enjoy the extra oomph
The display show 26.9 mpg but that has been mostly 'enthusiastic' driving around country lanes, so I would expect to see much more on the M-way.

I agree, but the extra torque eats the gearbox

Get in touch with PSI directly, they will tell you which 1 you need and are very helpfull.

I was waiting for my service pit to be finished before starting. Not a job I would undertake on my back, too old, might end up at the undertakers. I can't make my mind up about the one in the spares dog, it's done 162K that's 60K more than mine. Don't fancy changing it only to find it fails in a month or two. I'm considering my options (in other words putting the job off). I might chance the box and take a weeks holiday in the UK and visit Ashcrofts. The other alternative is to send the one from the dog to Ashcrofts for an exchange and then fit that. Just need a courier

Ohhhhhhhh right, so its not a runner then (no chance of firing the dog up to give it a blast to check what gearbox is like, and your having a pit... veryyyyy jelous lol

The gearbox in the dog works, but for how long. The fault on mine developed literally ovenight, fine one day, playing up the next, so using the dog box would be a gamble.
