Hi fellas,
Just came back from a weeks travel, and there was quite a bit of what looks like ATF on the ground. The car was parked on a steep slope, facing uphill. The leaks seem to have hit the ground just behind either front wheel. I pooped the bonnet and found what I think is the LH source, which is a black plastic breather tube in the top rear left hand corner of the engine bay. Where the leak on the RH came from is still a mystery.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Henrik

If it's being chucked out of the breather usually too much fluid in box. Also look at transfer box front output seal for other leak. Think you need to get underneath it, could really be coming from anywhere.

Hi
It hasn't happened since, and the level is OK now, so it must have been overfilled. It just seems strange that this would happen all of a sudden, since I haven't added any ATF lately. The car felt slightly odd the day I parked it, as though the converter didn't engage properly - the connection between engine and wheels felt "looser" than normal. I have but one theory: Just before it started to feel strange, I accidentally tried to set off in neutral. If the 'box was overfilled, this may have churned the fluid to froth, causing the lack of drive and the expelled fluid from the breathers.

Anyway, it's fine now. Yesterday I replaced the front and rear pinion seals and changed the oil in the differentials. It's amazing how much quieter the drivetrain suddenly is. I also replaced both rear airbags after one had started to leak. Incredibly easy job and a cheap fix. It made all the difference in the world. I suspect it must have been leaking for a while, because my car is now at the proper height in a cople of seconds, whereas it's always taken a minute or two before. With the overhauled pump and valveblock the EAS is now working as intended for the first time in years and it's marvellous!

It's a bitch with all the things that need doing on this car, but with well over 100k miles on the clock, I guess it's just at the age where things start happening. If I just keep at it and fix them when they go, I'll soon have replaced all perishable parts and finally have a reliable car again. :D

Cheers,
Henrik
