but the 5d has more megapixels!

I int offended, i just don't see your argument! I also don't believe the bit about asking consumers, i think yer making that bit up! If yer gunna take the **** coz of my choice of camera then feel free, but don't be surprised when i counter yer argument! (and i will try and do it factually rather than hypothesising about consumer surveys!)

On paper the 7d has far superior spec to the 5d in every way except not having a full frame sensor but then it has less megapixels which blows the quality from bigger pixels argument out of the water as well!

And when i said "you" i meant "one" - i was being hypothetical!

ok sorry, time out - i rose to being called a noggin over me camera choice and i shun't have - and yer all a bunch er ****ahs!!! Normality resumed, i've taken me pills now.

The 5dii has a sensor which covers 864mm2 which has 21million effective pixels
The 7d has a sensor which covers 329mm2 which has 18million effective pixels

That means the 5d has 41mm2 per million pixels compared to 18 for the 7d AND it has more megapixels to produce higher resolution images.

If you don't believe me about the market research they did for the 7D, go ask Canon themselves.

Fanny doesn't even want a DSLR!

At the end of the day, it's as much the photographer as it is the equipment. I think the differences between modern DSLR cameras (particularly those of the same brand) is so negligible that it doesn't matter. Also, it's never a good idea to demean somebody elses possessions, especially when they might have a large amount invested in them.

It's like how you would never insult someone's baby or their pet, no matter how factual your argument is, it's never going to go down well :D

aha! The voice of reason! :D

Of course it is but that doesn't mean we can't have discussions about what kit is best!! There are several reasons why pros spend thousands on their kit!

I'm not disputing that but with things like this, all of the arguments have been gone over dozens of times before. X vs Y and why Y is better than X in this respect and X better than Y in another.

Everybody makes their own choice of weapon based on all the information that is available to them (of which there is TONS) so being told you made the wrong decision can be incredibly testing. Jes' sayin' ;):)

Well I never meant to offend anyone  Thought it would be a good debate  Maybe you guys should go join the bobbly hat brigade :pound: Langers you got your ski poles at the ready?:lol:

Just the same trap Fanatic seemed to have fallen into as he was saying before we hijacked his thread :D:D

No girlfriend wanted a camcorder as we have a private blog for our distant relatives to login and view.

She bought one as she suggested that the one we have is old-but perfectly okay for youtube uploads.

She wanted a 1080 full hd model and obviously expected a 1920x1080 resolution to be good.
I would have gone for a hdd model and researched on the Internet-but she wanted to buy one locally (her money)

I do have an Olympus E600 DSLR which I don't claim to be an kind of expert with, but produces some photo's that are nice in my opinion.

Always up for a good debate but it loses its meaningfulness when it becomes a tirade of your opinion being right and anyone elses being stupid - and becomes a bit pointless when names start being called because you disagree with opinions (but of course you can always call the "just a bit of banter" card!)

This sounds remarkably familiar...
