hello everyone im new here , i need help my range rover as had extensive work on it as it had been running poorly ive had new crank position sensor and various other things , i got it delivered back to my house and it was running good for the first time in agers but then the battery went flat so i replaced it then it wouldnt start , the garage guy said it was the ecu so swapped that and it made no difference sdo put the original back on

ive heard something about resetting adaptive values ... how do i do this and will it work do you think ?

thanks alot

Pete (at my whits end) oh its a 1999 by the way

Lost sync between engine ECU and BECM. Needs a re-sync. Buy youself a syncmate from Blackbox Solutions, or put your location and there maybe someone nearby who can help.

two things you can do, get code reader and see if you have any codes, can you smell petrol see if you have spark at plugs. it sounds like its gon out of sync. put where you are in your profile some body may be close to help you.. oh and welcome to lz..

hey guys been away thanks for your replys im in mansfield notts , it cracks good and true and theres compressions and fuel but definaltely no spark its doesnt fire , i have a code reader and its not brought up any faults as of yet ,

I'm assuming this is a thor ems (as you say it's a 99) with the banana shaped inlet manifold, if so, then if there was an immobilisation issue your engine would crank, run for about 1 sec, then cut out. If your engine won't fire up (even for 1 sec), then it looks more like an ems problem rather than an immobi issue. If you think the injectors are working (causing fuel smell) and you have no sparks then I would check the ign coil fuse and the ignition relay.

thanks mate ill double check tomorrow , it defo does not run at all not for a second , so you think the sync mate wont help ?

SYNC MATE sorted it HIGHT 5 !!!!!!!!! please note i had no fault codes come up , theres a company on the net that you can buy one off and if it doesnt work the will refund you minus £25.00 and postage , this is a landrover secret itas comon as muck and if it does it once it will prob do it every couple of months so if you get one and it works keep it in your car , its took me agers to research and chase and i pray this helps you guys :)

great news. did your car try to start at all or not at all
problem with mine is it wont even try to start and the things ive heard about these sync mates is that its for only cars that turn over but dont fire up.

dont want to spend alsorts on a sync mate and find out thats not it.

could you link me the site you got yours from? thanks

Go into User CP and put your location in your profile; there may well be someone close that could help!

From your info yours is a GEMS system and OP.s most probably (1999) is a Bo sch system. This means the symptoms may well be different and the syncmate he has purchased will not work on your vehicle as you may need a GEMS version.
When you turn on the ignition(before activating the starter motor) do you get the "Check Engine" light illuminated on the instrument panel?
