towing a freelander

im about to change the master clutch master on my freelander but my brother who will do the work says they may be a problem bleeding it and it may have to go to the garage is it possible to tow it with a tranny van
and what problems am i about to encur

i was under the impression that the master and slave cylinder came as one unit with the pipe fitted and full of oil ready to go, least mine was anyway

Although the Td4 unlike the petrol has a two piece pipework the connector is self sealing and the sytem in not refillable.
The second pipe does end in a bleed nipple but the system should not be bled normally during the life of the system. I suppose if you have a problem with excessive pedal travel you could bleed it as a last resort to try and resolve the fault but if done excesively you would end up replacing the complete system anyway.

If towing a Freelander, it becomes an unbraked trailer due to being over 750kg. Think we've discussed this many times, it being illegal without (overrun ? ) brakes.

Agreed. But they would have to have the engine running, whilst driving using the gears. If not, then they’d be coasting. That’s illegal too.

Cost me £57 inc vat to have my Freelander carried on a truck 8 miles to a garage. That includes the truck driving 8 miles to my house, and his trip home of 13 miles. Hiring a truck to shift a car further doesn’t cost much more.

It's not. Every car these days is different. Some can only get towed a few miles, some can go 30 miles at 30mph, some have to have fuses put in or removed. It's a minefield.

Think you would be OK with all 4 wheels on the road (apart from legality issues) but those trucks that just lift the front wheels off the ground are a no no & could do major damage to IRD & probably VCU
