Was quoted £1248 for a detachable towbar fitted by dealer today !
Apparently do I need an armature, the actual towbar, the wiring kit and finally an electric module.
Does this sound right to the experts out there ?
Thanks.

Sounds a lot of money. You will need the tow bar obviously and the wiring kit. What they mean by an armature defeats me. You may need an electrical module, if you want a plug for feeding a caravan internal lights from the vehicles supply, or charging the van battery from the vehicle in motion.
i take it is a l322 then yes the tow bar is naughty in price but that is way over the armature is the bracketry that fixes to the car and the electrics are plug and play ubless you want split charge
I'm glad other people find it somewhat expensive as well; the armature is the crossbar into the centre of which you fit the swan neck.
My main concerns from other companies such as Towbar Express are warranty issues and lack of proper integration with the electrics (parking sensors etc).
Thanks.
Thanks Vougese39, your reply appeared while I was typing.
Are the electrics really just plug+play ?
All I need is single electrics because all I want to do is tow a horsebox.

done electrics on father-in-laws disco3 in 20 minutes, really simple, has 3 plugs one goes behind n/s rear light cluster and the other 2 go into the existing lighting circuts, one on each side, thn jus wire up the socket, hey presto done, simples,
if fittinf removable towbar make sure you turn the lever all the way or it wont fit !!!!, will be self explanatory when you see it...
I paid £400 for a detachable towbar (Witter- as used by BMW factory)for my E53 X5 which is similar in many ways to the L322 so that sounds like a rip off to me........
