Wirral,
Hi there

I've just bought myself my first Disco and pick it up in a weeks time, so I have the Haynes manual on order, and my finger hovered over the "buy now" button for Waxoyl. Talk about excited...

I have a couple of little bits of body work to do, around the windows, tail lights and back door, where the paint has bubbled. The underneath and important bits seem solid though.

I also noticed that when I test drove it up a slight hill there was a good trickle of water coming from from near the top of the windscreen on the passengers side. There's also a slight stiffness changing from first to second gear that I believe is a washer in the synchro... I'm hoping someone can tell me it's not too diificult to sort this out!

First and foremost I'm going to get the stone chip in the window sorted, but after that I suppose it's a case of work my way around the body work and make sure it's well and truly waxoyled.

The thing is that I've never done any work on a car before so will be getting some help from my brother who's quite handy. In short, I'll be trawling the forums for advice on what to do and how to do it.

Can anyone start me off with some advice on what to be doing first as I really am a complete newbie?

Cheers guys

Hi, and welcome.
re 2nd gear- disco`s are a bit prone to 2nd gear prob`s and sorry to say its not a little job to sort it . having said that ,as long as you drive it as a truck and not a car it probably wont be to mutch trouble. when it is then its box out job 9 out of 10 times

I agree, just live with it, if it crunches you'll get to know when you can change gear without crunching. You could change the gearbox oil for automatic fluid it's a bit thinnner and helped mine a lot.

Never mind the Waxoyl. Start saving now for yer welder. :D

LOL! I'll start saving now then... It seems solid! My dad was underneath it, under the bonnet and thumping the sills and wheel arches. The sill on the drivers side has already been replaced, the full width of the car where the back meets the bumper has had a plate welded in, and the wheel arch just inside the back door on the drivers side has also been welded...

boot floor??

boot floor??

Well, I'm a sturdy built lass so I did have a good push on the floor and there wasn't the slightest bit of movement in it!! I'll have a good look when I collect it next week!

Any good guides around on how to do a proper Waxoyl treatment from scratch!?
