cant start car help pls???

hi all my mum asked me to change the battery in key fob and said you had a min to do it so the fob stayed sync to car done it in about 25 sec but wont unlock car and can not start either i dont have the unlock code is there any other way i can get it going or do i just have to wait for landrover to open monday and get the code thanks in advance

More symptoms needed. Is it a P38, L322, Sport, etc? Which batteries did you use and how many? How old is the car as there are several ways of resynching the fobs depending on model year. What happens when you turn the key? i.e engine turns over or all light on and just plain dead and does the fob led come on when you press the buttons (provided batteries are in the right way round)?

yeah used 2 batterys and fob light comes on as normal so no probs there and yes its a
1998 p38 dse and when get in car and turn key just says press fob or enter code ?

Not sure if this applies to your model, but when I changed my batteries afterwards I had to put the key in the drivers door - turn the key (keeping the key turned) press a button on the fob, then turn the key the other way and repeat pressing the other fob button.

Have a look at the above thread. It's self explanatory. Otherwise you will need the EKA code which is free from the main dealer provided you (or the reg'd keeper) takes in the V5 with other ID. There is a long winded method of inputting the code via the driver's door lock which I'll explain if you need it. (It is in the owner's handbook though if you have one)

hi people have been and got the code but when i put it in via the door lock stil nothing happens the only thing that i can think of is that the door does not lock from the key and has not done since i got it but did not bother me as used the fob could this be why the code is not being reconised the door does unlock from the key but just does not lock if anyone could let me know asap it would be great as really need to get the car going and if this the problem any idea on how to sort it not locking thanks

that will stop your eka going in, open the door take pad off and fix the lock..

also just been looking through on here and noticed in one it says that all windows need to be set etc my drivers windows has also never been set and judders when gets to the top so i take it this will also affect it how does it know when the windows are set and also any ideas on a fix for the window??will look while waiting for a reply thanks again

that will be your window reg, only fix is replacement. you are turning the key 4 times to rear befor you start ?

you can set the window by tricking it if you've got a dodgy window mechanism,go through the procedure of setting the window and just before the window touches the top, block it with a piece of wood or something(this tells the car that it has reached the top,you might have to do it quite a few times before it sets),this worked for me as i had the same problem,couldnt enter EKA code without windows set but my window winding mechanism was buggered so couldnt set in the normal way

ok people will try this and keep you informed how i get on dont know if it makes a diff but the rear doors will not unlock maually or from unlocking from the drivers key so will this also stop me entering the code they seem to be superlocked they did work previous to changing the battery

hi all have got it sorted now thanks for all the help and just for future referance i sorted the lock but let me input the code with the driver front window not being set so if anyone has the same problem maybe still worht giving it a go anyway but thanks again for all the help its much appreciated
