td4 not starting & engine malfunction light

got it started this morning, but due to illness and needing wheels asap had no option but to take it in to be looked at - the journey there bit of a nightmare as if revving over 1500 the dash lit up like christmas tree so av speed about 15mph. they fitted new fuel pump and filter this afternoon...

td4 not starting & engine malfunction light

other than the day i bought the car two years ago has the fuel tank been anywhere near empty, fill up every week usually when there is 1/4 to 1/2 left, added some redex about a week ago but other than that nothing unusual. don't think fuel filter has ever been changed - certainly not since I've...

td4 not starting & engine malfunction light

auto td4 circa 2005 70,000 miles drove it 80 miles to and from work today as every day and was ok, took it out an hour later and had the engine malfunction light (the one on the right with the ! symbol) come on a couple of times when the car was revved or pulling. Had a look under bonnet all...

    Neat voltmater/thermometer

it has its own batteries so works fine with the ignition off - it just uses the 12v for the voltage monitor (obviously !) and the backlight. rotten weather here today so just stuck a small fuse in line with the supply to my gadget and the cigar socket for the time being!

    Neat voltmater/thermometer

thanks for the note about the fuse - will add one today - the original cable ended in a cig lighter plug that was fused but I chopped that off as wanted it permanently wired. the sensor is outside the car - I mounted it under my side steps - its only the cable that goes under the door trim for...

    Neat voltmater/thermometer

Bought this off ebay for seven pounds and as such a neat fit thought might be of interest to others: Provides inside and outside temperatures, and has a voltmeter too. Whole thing is backlit and it fits perfectly in the little cubbyhole under the becker radio. I took the 12volt from the...

driving lights - wiring in - facelifted freelander

well I searched again for the required connections near the steering wheel or fuse-box but no sign of them at all so found another solution - bit of a case of if the mountain will not come to muhammad... needed to take a feed from the main beam but around the headlamps there wasn't much room...

driving lights - wiring in - facelifted freelander

Has anyone managed to wire in the driving lights on a facelifted freelander ? These are the VUB 500870 pod style ones. They are designed to come on only with the full beam. The instructions show two connectors that you need to find and then wire into them as below: I have searched...

    key fob

most places will be expensive - the cheapest option is to get a slightly different keyfob which you programme yourself (they loan you the gizmo) by connecting to your fault code socket - will still cost you 50 notes mind. Land Rover Freelander Key Fob are you sure yours needs reprogramming -...

    Fuel Tank Cradle

how badly rusted are these ? This is mine - the supporting tubes don't look too bad but the plate is almost gone in places - has anyone managed to just replace the plate - looks a big job to take the whole thing off.

    radio upgrade

pretty sure the "alarm led" on the sat nav is nothing to do with the alarm but merely a dummy led that flashes when the main 12v power to the radio is off - I think there is even an option somewhere to have it turned off or on.

    freelander sat nav problem

how many satellities are showing when you press the * button ? if none, do a reset and watch for "antenna fault" as it reboots - if you get this message I would suggest a new aerial for about a tenner.

Sat Nav / Audio Front Piece?

The ebay listing claims to have everything - almost too much - aerial, ipod lead etc. Installation is easy - you need a removal tool to get the old one out - the ebay listing claims it has one - if not a couple of quid on ebay or a tenner from halfords. Take a photo of the old one with all the...

Sat Nav / Audio Front Piece?

do you mean just the removal security flap = pictured below ? If so I think you will struggle to get just one of these at a cheap price - I would try to find a complete unit via ebay - they normally go for upwards of 100 notes though if guaranteed working. There is also the very slight...

    Nav without Radio

you can't have it do this - the only way round it would be to make a cd with tracks consisting of silence and have that playing.

    V6 ECU Change / Chip

my old v6 was never chipped but I did just under 60,000 miles in it and it averaged 24.6mpg. The best ever figures were from driving to portsmouth and back - about 150 miles and mostly motorways which gave 31.91mpg. The exact same journey in my auto td4 gave 43.54mpg. Worst was obviously short...

    headlights

the standard fit "megabright" ones whether halfords or osram are a lot brighter and you will notice a big difference - bear in mind they don't last long so you might be paying out 20 notes or so fairly often. don't get a defender - everyone will think you're a pig farmer.

freelander v6 cam belt w pump change

yeah that was my dad hippo - car was mine though - he normally posts as he knows a lot more about cars and engines than me - probably explains why I bought a v6 and he got a td4 !!

freelander v6 cam belt w pump change

about 1500 miles after I had the cam belt replaced on my v6 the sprocket failed: will never know if something was dodgy with cam belt job or whether would have failed anyway but I wish I'd never swapped the belt - engine was irrepairable so my lovely v6 premium went to the breakers and I had...
