Freelander 1 water leak when standing and cold engine

hi all my wife's freelander has a small problem, it is a 1998 1800 petrol and yes it has had the head gasket done but it is leaking water but I can not see from where and this is when it has been standing and the engine has not been started for a couple of days I am at my wits end one problem I can not get down to have a look underneath so I am waiting for the son in law to have a look but it is strange loosing water when it has not even ran. any body any idea's and just to add there is none in the oil.

You say it's leaking water, but does the actual coolant level go down and need replacing? Reason I ask is that it may be the air conditioner condenser simply condensing ... my Laguna used to do it a lot! ... making it appear to be leaking water ..

An FL1 with the AC on will pool water on the ground, just behind and in-board of the LH front wheel. Mine drips about a litre per hour off the evaporator.

But as you say. It's helpful to know if the coolant is going down.

Can you tell us where the stain on the ground is in relation to front wheels ?

sorry people I forgot to add it is the coolant that is going down without the engine running and I can not see any water on the ground also no air con and the oil has no water in it and it has to be going some where and I have felt the carpets front end and they are dry

Is the sump guard catching it?
You say the HG was done, but how long ago? And who did it? Do they know what their doing? What type of gasket did they use? If MLS were the liner heights checked to confirm it was suitable? Was the head checked for flatness and hardness and skimmed/replaced as necessary? etc, etc
There are so many potential issues with a HG change it really is a minefield.
Hopefully it's just a dodgy coolant pipe tho.

Ha, mine was / is doing the exact same thing. In my case I found that the elastomer HG had failed where the Head bolts pass through so coolant seeped into the sump. Suggestion: loosen the sump plug a carefully unscrew it but not so much as to drain the oil. Possibly some coolant, if it's there, will come out first.

You could use one of those inspection cameras to peep down the cylinders to see if the IMG has gone.

I checked the oil and there is nothing but oil in there I have a camera I could put down into the bore but I really do not think it is that, this weekend my son in law is going to have a good look as cannot get down onto the floor any more

Is there a drain valve on the 1.8K?
